Is your child planning to travel to Australia on a student visa? If so, you may be able to accompany them!
This is made possible by the Student Guardian (subclass 580) visa, which lets you live with your child or dependent who is studying in Australia and requires a carer.
The 580 visa is normally given to those with a child or dependent who is under the age of 18. However, exceptions can be made when the student is aged 18 or over, but religion or cultural factors dictate that they need a guardian.
Those with children under the age of six will, in most circumstances, not be granted a 580 visa. If you would like to know more, contact one of Australia's many migration agents.
It is designed for people who are either applying for a 580 visa for the first time, or are perhaps already in Australia with a 580 visa and would like to apply for another one.
The 580 visa lets you remain in Australia until the student you've accompanied completes their studies, or until they turn 18 - whichever comes first. It also allows you to study in Australia for a maximum of three months, if you so desire.
