DIAC releases annual Migration Program Report

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has released its annual Migration Program Report.

This includes statistics that some registered migration agents might be interested to read.

In 2012/13, a total of 190,000 people chose to make Australia their home.

Of those, the majority applied for migration visas through the DIAC's skilled stream. A total of 128,973 people entered the country this way. That equates to 67.9 per cent of all visas granted.

In addition to this, 60,185 people travelled Down Under through the DIAC's family stream, making up 31.7 per cent of all visas granted.

The remaining 842 people received visas through the special eligibility stream.

According to the Migration Program Report, India provided Australia with the most migrants during this 12-month period.

A whopping 40,051 places were given to people from this country, which equates to 21.1 per cent of all available. India was followed by, unsurprisingly, China, which took up 27,334 places.

The United Kingdom came in third place, offering up a still impressive 21,711 migrants.

The DIAC reveals the number of places that were actually granted to overseas travellers was in keeping with the program's projected amount of 190,000.
