The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has just launched a campaign on Instagram, which encourages people around the country to explain what being an Australian citizen means to them.
The campaign invites citizens to post a video on Instagram and "affirm their loyalty to Australia".
A DIAC spokesperson said those who choose to participate in the campaign are being "urged to come up with a creative way of affirming their Australian citizenship," and share this with others on the social media platform.
You could, for example, make a pledge to donate blood or coach your local sports team.
This campaign will hopefully generate buzz in the lead-up to Australian Citizenship Day, which is being held on September 17.
You can post videos on Instagram until this date.
"What we're asking Aussies to do this Australian Citizenship Day is to create their own affirmation, starting with the words 'As an Australian citizen, I affirm …' and then explain a way they demonstrate what it means to be an Australian," said the DIAC spokesperson in a September 9.
