Migration agents encouraged to attend Liberal Party Event

Based on trending polls, it's very possible the federal government will change from Labor to Liberal at the election, which will be held sometime in 2013.

A new government would also mean new ministers, and there is an upcoming opportunity for migration agents to get to know one who could affect them greatly.

The shadow immigration minister Scott Morrison will be holding the annual gala dinner in the seat of Cook on Wednesday October 3 at 6:30pm, with a special guest, former treasurer Peter Costello, speaking, titled 'our finest treasurer ever'.

Costello and Morrison represent two important Liberal powerhouses - and with the Liberals tipped to win the upcoming election, there has never been a better time for migration agents to get to know Morrison and learn more about his policies.

It's also an opportunity to raise your concerns and ensure your voice is heard.

As well as this, audiences will have the opportunity to listen to Costello discuss what's needed to return the country to surplus through economic policies.

According to Morrison, a  treasurer like Costello is what this country needs, as the country is now in deficit.

"Real wages grew by more than 20 per cent, more than two million Australians found new jobs and he left our nation’s finances with more than $40 billion in the bank, after paying back Labor’s $96 billion debt," he said of Costello's time in office.

If you plan on attending the gala dinner, Migration Alliance recommends that you put on your form that you are a member so that you are seated with other Australian migration agents. This will ensure that the shadow minister can talk to you and listen to your concerns as a group.

One of the major concerns of Migration Alliance is the planned introduction of a compulsory International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in 2014. Migration Alliance feels that this unnecessary cost to agents who have not got this qualification penalises those agents who deal primarily with people from other countries and therefore those who mostly speak in a language other than English.

The event at the Le Montage at Lilyfield will cost members of the Liberal Party $175 per seat and non members $250.
