The government has announced its plans to create a Foreign Affairs and Trade portfolio, which should foster a stronger relationship between Austrade, Tourism Australia and those operating in the corporate events sector.
The Exhibition and Events Association of Australasia (EEAA) has welcomed this news. If these plans are realised, migration agents could be seeing more international buyers applying for immigration visas in the near future.
Joyce DiMascio, chief executive officer of EEAA, said in a September 4 statement that Australia already hosts a number of special events for a wide range of sectors, including "agriculture, financial services, mining and resources, manufacturing, tourism, retail and wholesale services".
She explained that the Foreign Affairs and Trade portfolio would help attract business from China, India and other nations that will be important partners as we head into the Asian Century.
Ms DiMascio added that she hoped the Foreign Affairs and Trade portfolio would offer members of the EEAA and the country as whole "the opportunity to build sales missions to Australia from international buyers".
The focus is currently on road-shows and "representing Australia at business fairs 'internationally'," she said, but more emphasis needs to be placed on getting international buyers to travel here.
