Tourism Research Australia (TRA) has just published its State of the Industry report, which contains some encouraging statistics for migration agents.
The report states that visitors from overseas injected $28.8 billion into the economy between 2012-13. This represents an increase of 5.9 per cent year-on-year, three times higher than the global average.
This jump in expenditure went hand-in-hand with a rise in the number of international visitors. A record 6.3 million people entered Australia to work, study or enjoy a holiday over the past year.
This is up 4.9 per cent on the previous 12-month period.
Dr Leo Jago, Chief Economist for Tourism and General Manager of TRA, said the tourism industry is making a valiant effort to achieve its Tourism 2020 goals.
He added that, since 2009, the international aviation sector has met 43 per cent of its 2020 target. The tourism industry has also created 18,000 jobs in the past four years.
Finally, the State of the Industry report demonstrates that China will account for 22 per cent of inbound travellers by 2022-23, so migration agents in Australia may see a few more clients from this neck of the woods in the near future!
