Migration Alliance and MIA members

Christopher Levingston, one of Australia's most well-known migration agents, recently sent a mass email to members of the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA).

He wanted to find out how these registered migration agents are coping with the changes that have been happening at this organisation, which represents 2,200 Australian migration agents, as well as professionals from abroad.

The biggest bombshell was Maurene Horder's announcement on August 30 that she was stepping down from her role as chief executive officer at the MIA.

The way this was handled seems to have caused some dissention amongst the ranks, judging by the responses Mr Levingston received to his email.

Many migration consultants admitted to Mr Levingston that they are opting not to renew their memberships with the MIA.

The reasons for this are diverse, but a few common themes are apparent. You can read these in full on the Migration Alliance blog.

A lot of professionals are deciding to sign up with Migration Alliance, which one migration agent described as "an organisation that is genuinely concerned about agents".

Migration Alliance now has more than 3,900 members, which means those who are a part of this organisation have access to a wide range of migration agents and others in this ever-changing sector.

We offer our members low-cost Continuing Professional Development (CPD), which is a vital part of staying on the ball in this fast-paced profession.

Migration Alliance's website ranks highly on Alexa.com, and our content is read by both national and international audiences. It is also, no doubt, read by members of the MIA, many of whom are also members of Migration Alliance.

Liana Allan, treasurer of Migration Alliance, recently contacted the MIA, in order to discuss a possible collaboration.

Migration Alliance is still waiting for a response.
