Young Australians will more easily be able to holiday, work and study in Greece with reciprocal Work and Holiday arrangements set to commence on 1 July 2019.

Five hundred places each will be available annually for young Australians and Greeks to visit each other’s country for up to twelve months.

Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, David Coleman, said he appreciated the efforts of visiting Greek Deputy Foreign Minister, Terens Quick, in finalising the arrangement.

The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) has commenced legal action against the former operator of a Melbourne restaurant, alleging it underpaid a migrant employee almost $70,000 and provided false records to inspectors during the investigation.

Facing the Federal Circuit Court is China Bar Buffet (Epping) Pty Ltd, which owns the China Bar Signature restaurant and China Bar Express fast food outlet in Epping.

The FWO is also taking action against the company’s sole director Siak Kong Chi and bookkeeper Ying Lee, of the ‘China Bar Group’, alleging they were involved in some of the company’s alleged breaches of workplace laws.

The Fair Work Ombudsman has commenced legal action against a major service station chain for allegedly underpaying 22 employees $62,393 at sites across regional NSW.

Facing the Federal Circuit Court is Westside Petroleum Retail 1 Pty Ltd and three of its management staff – general manager Patrick Riad, company accountant Francesco Ieraci and area manager Shahzaib Khawaja – who are each alleged to have been involved in the company’s breaches.

The FWO alleges that employees were underpaid at 12 petrol stations - Adaminaby, Wagga Wagga, Finley, Gurley, Lismore, Somerton, Temora, Tolland, Blayney, Glen Innes, Peak Hill and Cooma – for periods between July 2015 and May 2016.

Western Australia’s Goldfields region is set to receive an economic boost with the Morrison Government signing a Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) with the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

The Goldfields will be among one of the first regions in Australia to enter a five-year agreement with the Commonwealth aimed at ensuring skilled migrants contribute through employment in key roles where Australian workers are not available.

The new arrangements will assist a range of industries including mining, engineering, construction, childcare and health among others helping to drive economic growth and fill critical employment gaps.
