The Government has today announced a new campaign to attract more working holiday makers to Australia, helping to support our farmers and boost regional tourism.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Simon Birmingham said Australia had a reputation as a top destination for working holiday makers, but more could be done to convince working holiday makers to pack their bags and book a flight to Australia.

“Working holiday makers are an essential part of Australia’s agricultural and tourism industries,” Minister Birmingham said.

The following occupations will be added to Immigration SA’s occupation lists in the afternoon of Friday 15 March, 2019.

The ACT Occupation List was updated 12 March 2019 to incorporate the Department of Home Affairs changes to the list of eligible occupations for State / Territory nomination.

Background:

On 30 November 2015, the plaintiff applied for a Temporary Graduate (Graduate Work) (Subclass 485) visa.

The criteria for the grant of a Subclass 485 visa included, under reg 485.224 of Sch 2 to the Migration Regulations 1994 (Cth), the following:

Tonga's entry into the Scheme will provide more Tongan workers access to skills development opportunities, while also helping fill labour shortages in rural and regional Australia.

Tonga has participated over a number of years under the Seasonal Worker Programme, providing almost half of the 31,000 workers since 2012. The Australian government is pleased Tonga will have the opportunity to build on this through joining the Pacific Labour Scheme.
