Red Tape Reduction for Migration Agents
The Coalition Government's commitment to red tape reduction was highlighted today with the announcement by the Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash that re-registration of migration agents would be simplified.
Minister Cash has announced the removal of the English language proficiency requirement for re-registering migration agents.
Under the former Labor Government, the change affecting the re-registration of migration agents was due to come into effect from 1 January 2014.
Minister Cash said simplifying the re-registration process will save the sector time and money.
This decision reflects the Government's commitment to reducing red tape and will allow the migration advice industry to focus on providing high quality assistance to clients.
Minister Cash said she was not satisfied that the former Government's decision to impose an additional burden on re-registering agents by requiring them to demonstrate their English language competency was supported by evidence.
"It is clear from my consultations that industry stakeholders were concerned by the detrimental impact this measure would have had on experienced agents," Minister Cash said.
Minister Cash also stated that she would now consider a broader review of the migration advice industry including English language requirement for migration agents entering the profession.
"Given the role played by the migration advice industry in the delivery of Australia's migration programme, it is important it maintains high standards and continues to develop professionally," Minister Cash said.

Friday, 06 December 2013Rick, we can all see what Angela and her colleagues were doing in the background. F*** over migration agents who had not been in practice for 10 years. The MIA submission in January 2013 says it all. How do you know that Migration Alliance doesn't have 4200+ members? You got their database? I can't imagine they would be sharing it with someone like you.

Not sure what you are responding to. However, I will ask a very, very, simple question. How does one become a member of the MA? Can you explain the process to me, because for the life of me, I cannot perceive any process which leads to membership? Also how many registered Agents are there in total, on the MARA registry?

Happy to publish your comments. Some of them have not been published previously as we deemed that they were not fit for public consumption. You are entitled to your say.
I can assure you that Migration Alliance does have 4200 members. If you look in the OMARA annual report you will see that there are currently 4899 migration agents in the profession. The annual report is published on their website.
Your MO seems to be about coming onto our blog and commenting negatively about Migration Alliance and positively about the MIA and constantly in defence of the MIA. You can keep on doing this all you like. Similar to what Francis has said, it just makes you look like a MIA troll trying to sow the seeds of doubt amongst our members. And as far as joining MA. I know you couldn't be Michael Walker (MIA) from Melbourne as he specifically denied being Rick Oshea or Murray Rivers, in fact he was so upset that I had even suggested that it was him he asked me to "cease and desist".

Thanks Liana, but can you articulate the process here? As for Murray, he has been a little under the weather. Been in Court trying to examine a witness/defendant, who is a serial litigant. Gets poor Murray very frustrated it does, but he will pull through.
So, just to clarify, out of the entire MARA registry, MA claims 90% as its members, is that correct. Sorry to make life difficult, but in the absence of Murray, I don't have his erudition from which I may be guided. -

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. The real winners here are the RMAs who stood to lose their livelihoods. I am happy to fight for what's right. Diversity is important for our profession, as is equality and unity. My goal for this fight was to leave no RMA member behind. Thankfully this happened. Good luck RMAs into 2014 and I look forward to serving you all again then.

My comments Liana are totally in line with the topic. Claims have been made on here that you are the peak professional body. I am simply speaking to that claim.
I am sorry, but I can't find the link to become a RMA Member. Can you direct me please.
As for being caught up in one's fundament, not sure whether the word is being used in its more humurous sense, but the agent of misinformation who used the word, is certainly talking through his. -

Rick it is very obvious how to join MA. It says JOIN MA on the top right hand side of the homepage and gives options on what type of member you want to be. Not hard. You are being difficult and are obviously from the MIA. You obviously can't believe how great Migration Alliance is! And we all become members because we want to.

I know this will not get published as the "moderator" has censored me on a number of occasions. So much for the MA's claim of open and honest debate.
In its press release, the MA has the temerity to use the word "gall" and vexatiously attributes it to a person, of whom, the MA has no possible idea of the work done by that person and her colleagues. The MA falsely claims to have a membership of 4200 RMA's. Again, this is a mendacious and purposeful attempt to mislead.
The only thing that is galling in any of this, is the constant divide and conquer strategy adopted by the MA - or at least its leading protagonists - for their own self interest. The 70's Australian band, Shyhooks once sang "ego is not a dirty word"
In this case it is not only dirty, but festers in the hearts of some very misguided people.
While I might not be published, the truth will ring out loud and clear down the track and the mirage which is the MA, will eventually disappear into the ether that is irrelevance.
Geez, I feel much better now.
