Breaking Australian immigration news brought to you by Migration Alliance and associated bloggers.
Migration Alliance queried the status of Priority Group 5 applications last week. The DIBP have responded as follows:
Dear Ms Allan, XXXXXXX [name removed for privacy reasons] passed your e-mail to the Skilled Migration Policy branch as the issues raised by your members are handled in this branch.
As you would appreciate, Australia runs a demand driven skilled migration program to meet the current and emerging skill needs of the Australian labour market and to strengthen the whole economy. Skilled migration policies are tailored to meet this objective and have always changed to reflect the prevailing economic conditions of the time.
I note the frustration expressed by some migration agents at the length of time taken to process skilled migration visa applications. The Australian Government understands that migration is a major life decision and can be emotionally and financially stressful for applicants.
Australia is fortunate in that the number of people seeking skilled migration far exceeds the number of places available in the programme. The Department of Immigration and Border Protection can only grant the number of visas allocated by the Government in the annual migration programme and so must prioritise the order in which skilled migration applications are processed through priority processing arrangements. Priority processing arrangements ensure that the economy gets the skills it needs now, rather than those of visa applicants who applied first.
The Government is aware that priority processing impacts on many applicants who will have a longer wait for their visas to be processed. However, the Government must also take into account the effect of the difficult labour market conditions which migrants, Australian permanent residents and citizens currently face. Priority Group 5 applications are allocated when all available applications in higher priority groups are allocated, or in line with planning level requirements for each of the visa categories.
The Department is unable to give specific timeframes for when individual applications will be finalised, as this will depend on when the person applied and how many applications are received in higher priority groups. It is not possible to process applications outside of the priority processing arrangements. Applicants will only be contacted once their application is allocated to a case officer.
Information on priority processing and allocation dates is available on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website at:www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/estimated-allocation-times.htm.
Regards.

Hello kris,
I am also same boat waiting for since 5 years no news. Every years thought this year my turn will be come but not hope even last year I got my canada Pr but still wait for Australian pr .don't know when it will be come ...let me what i have to do . I am with u. Thanks
I called the processing centre;
Me: is there a chance we get our visas this year?!!
The officer: no... I don't know...
Me: was that no, as in we won't get it or you don't know?!!
The officer: I don't know!!!
Me: can you advise who knows?!!!
The officer: I don't know... We don't know... You ll have to wait.
Me: I been waiting for 6 years!!!!!!
The officer is silent!!!!
No news. The only think I know is DIBP will only resume the processing if they can't fill the quota like what happened in Feb 2013.
The migration agents are reluctant to answer their 886/176 er clients' calls anymore.
Answers are given only on assumptions no precise information what so ever.
This must be our rewards for doing the right thing.
Guys,
Anyone interested in going out in the open about this situation with your story, name and face? I am doing it. I've come in contact with a journalist who is interested to look into this and I want to take this up. Sharing this with the rest here.
Anyone interested, please email me. I want an answer to why I have to wait to so long on a service standard promise of 24 months. I hope few others join me. And if you do, it will help us get some good attention hopefully. Getting our voice out may take time. But if we keep trying, someone will succeed definitely. If it is someone from Category Group 5, everyone benefits. Lets end this DIBP hide&seek challenge this year. Find your resources too. Where are the rest?
It will take time to get people to interested in this issue, it'll take longer to get the right people interested. Waiting to definitely get it is not the worst but why should we have to put our life decisions on hold is the question. We don't stop living but most meaningful things of our lives are on hold because of this. Thats a bit harsh. Getting our problems together will be important so they know the scale of this problem really.
Keep a record of what DIBP says every-time you or I call. I know what they say on FB and Twitter to our group - Please refer to the DIBP webpage! And what are our options? ZERO. I hear Ambiguity!

p.s. does anyone have any word on the March 2015 Priority Group 5 processing? Few have heard about it but verifiable information has been difficult to find. Can't locate anything in the Immi media releases nor in the Immi. Minister or Asst. immi. minister's media releases.
In my opinion this goes against human rights!
We are not Asylum seekers! We are skilled people who paid for their applications, pay taxes and expensive lives, contribute to Australian economy and deserve an answer! I want to start working and create a group of people who are in the same situation as me (I have been living in Australia for 15 years at first with different temporary visas: working holidays, student, graduate then I applied for my PR in 2009 and been on bridging visa for almost 6 years!) If we look at the numbers there is an enormous amount people in this situation and we CAN do something! or at least try....pls reply to me if interested in getting involved.
here is my email iaiasydney@hotmail.com
I will try and do something from my end lets come together let's reach the media lets do something if we don't look after this matter we will be waiting for years and years! do you want to keep living in the limbo?
hope to hear from some of you!
Way to go Ilaria. Need more from everyone. Guys, talk to people, if we talk to hundreds, we'll definitely find one right idea. This limbo can't last forever!! The other day someone emailed me and said he has been on this waiting list for 7 years now!! can you imagine? 5 years is enough for me already.
Your wife, your children, your husband, your parent/s, your long-term girlfriend/boyfriend - everyone is waiting. Not just you. Something has to be done otherwise this will only get bitter.

Guys please feel free to email myself or Ilaria.
And we understand if some of you do not want to share your real name or photo, we will not be disclosing anything without your permission. I'm sure once we bring everything out in the open, some of you will get a bit more comfortable and may join us.
We're trying to reach to as many as possible, the one's who are are waiting like us and the one's who may be interested in our situation.
Ilaria and I are both based in Sydney. We're close to the the city. Encourage everyone from Sydney to join this thread and the rest form inter-state to join via email and this blog and text messages.
Cheers,

applied for 886 in june 2010. Got married last year and wife is here on a tourist visa(1 year / 3 month validity), her visa ends in March. Not sure if the dept will grant her extension off tourist visa. We can't plan having kids, parents are now old & we are helpless getting them here. Spent thousands off dollars in the last one year as wife has to leave the country every three months and return. It's a crime the immi dept is committing. I run a successful business, provide employment to over 30 contractors(quite a few are australian citizens), i am advised by agents to forget about 886 and consider 457/business visa. After waiting 5 years It doesn't seem practical. The whole situation is causing stress at all levels & I wonder the decision to move to Australia has put many like me in a catch 22 situation. I think everyone in the same situation should get together and do get our voices heard. Someone should be answerable.
