Breaking Australian immigration news brought to you by Migration Alliance and associated bloggers.
Migration Alliance queried the status of Priority Group 5 applications last week. The DIBP have responded as follows:
Dear Ms Allan, XXXXXXX [name removed for privacy reasons] passed your e-mail to the Skilled Migration Policy branch as the issues raised by your members are handled in this branch.
As you would appreciate, Australia runs a demand driven skilled migration program to meet the current and emerging skill needs of the Australian labour market and to strengthen the whole economy. Skilled migration policies are tailored to meet this objective and have always changed to reflect the prevailing economic conditions of the time.
I note the frustration expressed by some migration agents at the length of time taken to process skilled migration visa applications. The Australian Government understands that migration is a major life decision and can be emotionally and financially stressful for applicants.
Australia is fortunate in that the number of people seeking skilled migration far exceeds the number of places available in the programme. The Department of Immigration and Border Protection can only grant the number of visas allocated by the Government in the annual migration programme and so must prioritise the order in which skilled migration applications are processed through priority processing arrangements. Priority processing arrangements ensure that the economy gets the skills it needs now, rather than those of visa applicants who applied first.
The Government is aware that priority processing impacts on many applicants who will have a longer wait for their visas to be processed. However, the Government must also take into account the effect of the difficult labour market conditions which migrants, Australian permanent residents and citizens currently face. Priority Group 5 applications are allocated when all available applications in higher priority groups are allocated, or in line with planning level requirements for each of the visa categories.
The Department is unable to give specific timeframes for when individual applications will be finalised, as this will depend on when the person applied and how many applications are received in higher priority groups. It is not possible to process applications outside of the priority processing arrangements. Applicants will only be contacted once their application is allocated to a case officer.
Information on priority processing and allocation dates is available on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website at:www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/estimated-allocation-times.htm.
Regards.

Let's start with me. my email address-- momen_amm_abdul@yahoo.com. U can call me at 0405654890 this number. We need to open a Facebook page. There is a Facebook page for DIBP, where I occationally comment about our case. I think if we ask as a group, our voice will be much louder that they can't deny.
If we are together than atleast all of us can hire someone good and talk on behalf of us.it is very hard when you are by yourself and you dont have that kind of money to see a lawyer.i reckon we need each others support and form a group of 886 applicants. As a group we can be heard and tell our story whats been happening with us.They have made money from us and now they dont want us.we have followed their criteria and assessments.they cant just leave us.i am with eveyone of you and happy to do anything to get this thing sorted.Thank you
Hi all,
I had been waiting since April 2009 and till now no decision has been made by DIBP and it's really frustrating and annoying on going issue. I lost my 5 years and living a backward life! Paid so much $$ to hell lot of agency and to DIPB but still waiting. I got married in 2010 and me and wife living separately for the last 5 years...neither she can join me because of the stupid policy and 886 won't allow her to join me here in Aus. I had been mentally totured and feel sycophantic while waiting for this simple decision from DIPB!! What on earth do people do to us ? What wrong did we do? We spend so much money and follow the policy and being on the right path as promised from Day 1 we enter this country.... But yet we are the sufferers!!
5 freaking years!!! Please u had enough time to sort out the economy of Australia!! Get us what we applied for!! I guess 5 years is more than enough punishment given, as we all suffered the pain of being living seperated life!! Please someone help us out!! Is there anybody here in Australia may think the right thing and do the right thing for all of us who had been waiting since 2008....please fix it!! We all love Australian with our heart and that's why we are still here...waiting ..give us the chance to prove it...please grant our applications and relief us from this pain....I want to see my wife. I want to have a better family life here. Please don't break our hopes anymore... We had enough patience to hold ourselves... Let's work it out DIPB.
Hmmm I lodged in Jan 2010 886. Getting more and more frustrating/sad when I think about this. I am married to an Australian, I could have applied for spouse application, It would have been faster but I choose to wait for this because I am proud of my degree and want to get PR by it, also it will cost me $4000+ to lodge a new application.. Unfortunately money doesnt fall from the sky for me... People applied through spouse sponsorship get their applications approved within 2 years. When the department mentioned the policy changed according to demand skills, it just pissed me off. Those applied through spouse has no skills, most likely go straight to central ink.. I pretty sure the policy is to make you give up and leave.. I am going to write a letter to Immigration Minister again asking more information about 886 processing plan.. I think they also use point system to process our application, that is why all 885 applications were finalized.. I strongly believe that we all should contact ombudsman as a group, so they see this as a big issue. We are still a customer, and we expect application updates. We were told with 2years NOT forever. We feel cheated and mislead and robbed. This has impacted our lives, future, mentally and emotionally. By the time they give us PR some of us might go to Mental hospital, I dont know about you but I am close to becoming one of those people.. I start to believe the whole thing is an excuse.
Yes , it is true . We have to sent email to immigration minister and ombudsman ... Otherwise make a group at least 50 member get appointment with immigration minister to meet him face to face . ...i willingly that migration alliance help to us in this issue . Really it is my own feeling we guys are rapist by DIBP since more than five years . Oh god it's enough ... No more ....
