I find it hard to believe that nearly a quarter of 2017 is already behind us, but it’s true to say that one of the hottest topics occupying the international and Australian media over the first few months of this year has been immigration, an issue which is of course close to my heart.

Much of that commentary has been sparked by the unprecedented media furore around the inauguration and ensuing actions of new US President Donald Trump.

Throughout the course of his presidential campaign, Trump put issues of immigration high on the agenda, making the construction of a “wall” between the US and Mexico a core promise, and repeatedly raising the idea of banning or restricting Muslims from migrating to America.

The following news has been released by the DIBP:

Migration agents representing visa applicants must complete decision-ready Assurance of Support (AoS) claims to the Department of Human Services (DHS).

Submitting an incomplete application will delay the processing of the AoS claim and consequently will also delay the finalisation of your client’s associated visa application. Incomplete applications for AoS may also result in an AoS claim being refused which could lead to a refusal decision on your client’s application by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

URGENT WARNING:

Criminals have hacked the Migration Alliance VOIP phone number 02 90081306 and are passing off as police, the DIBP and other authorities to try and extract money from persons across Australia.

If you receive a call from our phone number, 0290081306, and the caller states they are from the police or other government department please report this to your local police station.  So far we have reports of calls being made to the states of NSW and VIC.

I am in the middle of a partner migration case, where it is important that the child of the relationship is deemed an Australian citizen.

This is despite the fact that the Australian child has already been issued with an Australian passport, and already holds an Australian Citizenship by Descent certificate.

The child's father is an Australian citizen and is also the holder of an Australian passport.

I used the word 'the' clients in my heading for a reason, and not the word 'their' clients.  Read on to find out why.

I have recently had a migration agent resign.  No problems with that so far.  The agent has been with my business since 2003 and has decided to move on.
