Agents on 'secret' immigration blacklist reported in Sydney Morning Herald today

Natalie O'Brien, a reporter from the Sydney Morning Herald has written a news story today.  She says "A blacklist of registered migration agents and lawyers the Department of Immigration tried to keep secret has been reproduced online, escalating calls for an inquiry and a possible class action against the department."

As migration agents would already be aware, Migration Alliance's Convenor, Accredited Specialist immigration lawyer, Christopher Levingston said that the creation and maintenance of what he called a "shi* list" of registered migration agents  "is a complete disgrace and shows the absolute contempt that the department has for the profession".

Mr Levingston said the department had acted deceitfully and in a manner that damaged the clients of agents because of some unspecified criteria.

He also questioned assurances from the department it had stopped using the list. "Why should any of us believe that?"

Christopher Levingston previously ran a blog on the agents of concern.

Cant the Migration Alliance strike back at the Empire, by creating a list of Case Officers with which if pays to be cautious of ? Perhaps we could distribute it to the general public as a means of raising business. "If you get that case officer... you DEFINITELY need a Migration Agent"

They will never apologies or get rid of this list unless we sue.
even if they get rid of the list, it will always exists in the minds of case officers/public . The damage is to pour repute is done, we need to be compensated.

we just need to follow this up 'judicially' as our collective anger can be used as an excuse against us for their inaction - you know? the bit about allowing our emotions to run away with our logic and sounding like crazed people on a mission (which we are - on a mission but not crazed...).

We'll have to follow our strategy, assist members with FOI applications and support the industry and be firm with the path we've traced for ourselves...

Easier said than done but we need to walk the talk here... and it would be good to get an apology to each and everyone of us and an officially written undertaking that the list is no longer nor will any consideration be given to do something like this in future.
