In a Migration Law Updates email yesterday titled " Good news: AAT reopens "late" application" by Sergio Stagliorio, Sergio (aka the writer) writes about Mark Northam and himself recently summarising the Federal Court (Full Court) decision in DFQ17 where it was held that a "late" Tribunal application was actually NOT late.

To be clear about this, and to give credit where credit is due, Michael Arch, member of the Migration Alliance committee first wrote a full and concise summary about this topic on 29 April 2019 in his article titled "Important Case about Late Filings in the AAT.  Salvation may be at Hand".

Below is a report on the global attitude towards refugees by Ipsos.

Over half are not convinced that refugees that come to their country are genuine and four in ten believe their borders should be closed entirely to refugees.

Migration Agents who have taken out Professional Indemnity Insurance with Insurance House need to be aware of the following.  

Insurance House apparently suffered a huge cyber attack on the 9th June 2019 which makes them appear like they have 'disappeared'.

The following email has been sent to Insurance House by a Migration Lawyer, who has reported this to Migration Alliance:

Tech visa scheme to be reviewed

The twelve-month pilot of a Global Talent Scheme for tech-focused visas will be continued past its looming finish date as the federal government conducts a review of the scheme’s effectiveness.

The Global Talent Scheme was launched in July last year in an effort to placate an irate tech sector following the shock scrapping of the 457 visa in 2017.   The scheme, which sits under the Temporary Skills Shortage visa class, provides visas for “highly skilled and specialised positions that can’t be filled by Australian workers”.

The Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA) today welcomed the decision by the Coalition Government not to pursue plans to make testing stricter for people seeking Australian citizenship.

The Morrison Government had previously planned to make testing tougher and include an English test and questions on Australian values. FECCA Chairperson Ms Mary Patetsos said stricter language testing was not necessary.

“FECCA welcomes this decision because while there are many valid requirements around citizenship testing, stricter language testing is not necessary or required."
