Breaking Australian immigration news brought to you by Migration Alliance and associated bloggers. Please email help@migrationalliance.com.au
It has been brought to our attention from joint MIA-MA members, that LexisNexis are advertising learning sessions via the MIA.
We would like to remind RMAs that it is our honest belief that the best professional library is still LegendCOM. LegendCOM is the RMA professional Library product offered by the DIBP. LegendCOM is a cost-neutral professional library and is offered for sale on a cost-recovery basis only by the DIBP.
To the best of our knowledge, for every RMA that signs up to LexisNexis, and has been referred by the MIA, the MIA is earning commission on sales. Migration Alliance was once offered commission by LexisNexis but declined, and cut ties with LexisNexis citing 'the product fell short of the expectations of the profession'.
We view the promotion of and training of RMAs on LexisNexis products as part of a sales and commission-earning process. We would like to ask RMAs who attend these sessions to report back to us via the email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , regarding approaches during or after the session to buy or upgrade their subscription to LexisNexis.
Poll: Which RMA professional library product do you prefer? (Click to select)
We encourage agents not to buy the LexisNexis subscription as in our opinion it is an inferior product to LegendCOM.
We have nothing to gain from providing this information and do not get paid commission or a fee to endorse the LegendCOM product over and above LexisNexis. The feedback from RMAs is clear. LegendCOM is still the preferred library.
One has to wonder why the MIA would promote this to their members when the profession has already spoken. RMAs generally don't like it as a product.
Below is an example of information MIA-MA members may have received via email from the MIA:
LexisNexis Practical Guidance - Immigration Law contains all the materials required by MARA for maintaining a professional library.
Registration is free and you are welcome to join for one or both of the following sessions:
Level 1: Introduction to LexisNexis Practical Guidance
Wednesday 21 October
3:00 PM -3:45 PM AEDT
Level 2: Extend your learning on LexisNexis Practical Guidance
Thursday 22 October
3:00 PM -3:45 PM AEDT
The majority do not necessarily speak for all. There must be one or two things which Lexis does better although I am not sure what they are. As such, I don't really see the problem with the competition. As we know, in monopoly situations, prices tend to rise on a whimsy. Of course this would be a stronger argument if LexisNexis dropped their prices.
