Breaking Australian immigration news brought to you by Migration Alliance and associated bloggers.
I received a phonecall today from someone I know and trust. The DIAC is about to restructure as part of 'budget cuts'. The news is as follows:
A/S is going to be Richard Johnson (former PMC guy).
First Assistant Secretary is going to be Garry Fleming (taking over Kruno Kukoc's role).
State Director of NSW is going to be Kruno Kukoc.
Director of the Migration Agents Section (MAS) in Canberra will remain Diana Trionfi. Diana's 'empire' within the DIAC is going to grow.
Caroline Humphries who used to head up the Migration Agents Section was moved to another section. That section is going to be completely disbanded as a part of 'budget cuts'.
DIAC will be losing a number of chairs.
I will be having a meeting on Monday to find out more about this and will post information in here as soon as I have it.
Liana,
Interesting isn't it. DIAC is short of money and filing fees are cranked up?
Coincidence?
In the 25 years I have been in practice, DIAC has probably restructured every 5 or so years. Often there has been no perceptible benefit?
I wonder why the Migration Agents section continues to exist.
What do they actually do?
They don't regulate, they don't investigate, they don't prosecute unregistered " agents". They aren't needed to liaise with OMARA as they are both children of the same mother.
What use are they?
Cut them!
