Western Australia’s Goldfields region is set to receive an economic boost with the Morrison Government signing a Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) with the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

The Goldfields will be among one of the first regions in Australia to enter a five-year agreement with the Commonwealth aimed at ensuring skilled migrants contribute through employment in key roles where Australian workers are not available.

The new arrangements will assist a range of industries including mining, engineering, construction, childcare and health among others helping to drive economic growth and fill critical employment gaps.

South Australia will receive an economic boost with the Morrison Government agreeing to two Designated Area Migration Agreements (DAMA) with the South Australian Government.

The Adelaide City Technology and Innovation Advancement Agreement and Regional South Australia DAMA arrangements will assist a range of industries including agriculture, forestry, hospitality, tourism, health and construction among others helping to fill critical employment gaps and drive economic growth.

Covering 60 occupations, up to 300 people per year will be able to be sponsored over the five-year agreement through the Adelaide City Technology and Innovation Advancement DAMA.

"Over 5,000 students from ASEAN countries are studying in here while increasingly, students from South Australia are studying elsewhere in the region.

This a powerful tool for us to create a bright future for our youth together, and to contribute to a prosperous and harmonious Asia-Pacific region.  I am aware that during the program for your visit, you are discussing education as well as some of our other key industries and the opportunities they provide for further mutually beneficial co-operation and development.  So I will try to build on this by outlining the key measures my Government is putting in place to put innovation at the heart of that agenda.

The Government has today announced a new campaign to attract more working holiday makers to Australia, helping to support our farmers and boost regional tourism.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Simon Birmingham said Australia had a reputation as a top destination for working holiday makers, but more could be done to convince working holiday makers to pack their bags and book a flight to Australia.

“Working holiday makers are an essential part of Australia’s agricultural and tourism industries,” Minister Birmingham said.
