The Department of Home Affairs introduces a new Credit Card Fraud Prevention Solution for credit and debit card payments made via ImmiAccount.

On Thursday, 10 December 2020, 2pm AEDT, the cardholder authentication security function will be activated for payments made with cards issued by Australian financial institutions only.

When you pay via debit or credit card:

  • You must enter the address of the cardholder into the payment screen in ImmiAccount.
  • The cardholder’s bank may require that you complete a card authentication challenge.

The payment transaction will fail if:

  • The address entered into the payment screens is different to the address linked to the bank account of the cardholder.
  • The card authentication challenge is not completed successfully.

The introduction of the Credit Card Fraud Prevention Solution may mean a change to the way that you conduct your business.

The below options will help you to meet the payment authentication security requirements.  As always, you should ensure you comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS).

  1. Use your corporate or personal card to make payments. If the cardholder’s bank sends a card authentication challenge, you will be able to complete it successfully.
  2. If using your client’s credit or debit card to make payment, ensure that the client is present or is able to be contacted in case their bank sends them an authentication challenge.

For further information, please refer to the Department’s website: How to pay for online applications.
