The Department is extremely oppressive with such outrageous increases in visa application fees. For the level of incompetency and inefficiency that they demonstrate in the manner in which they process applications, the fee hikes are not only completely unjustified, but also oppressive. There is an obvious element of discriminatory practice - and being a government agency, they should be reasonable. Long delays, incompetent case officers who refuse visas on arbitrary grounds and a number of other inefficiencies only spell loss for anyone intending to make an application particularly partner applications. The Department takes fees and destroys lives in some instances without proper recourse to redress - truly the idea of 'People. Our business' holds true - people are nothing but business for the Department.

Fee hikes would possibly be justified if the processes were more efficient and professional and resources were going into training and hiring new officers so people do not have to wait for 30 years for a visa!

I have to say that i agree. I also find it almost ridiculous that Case officers at the department of Home affairs or any other staff member is not required to do the course in Australian Migration Law.
I think it is understandable that they do not need to do CPDs etc but considering anyone can all the Department of Home affairs and ask what visa they can apply for, that it would be necessary for these guys to at least do the course all agents have had to do.

Forget registration and the capstone exam. Just need the course to understand the framework i think would make them better at understanding what they are doing.

Now like every other system there are some case officers that are great but some are just beyond words
