Plebiscite (Allowing Australians to Decide Who Comes Here) Bill 2018!

A Bill for an Act to provide for a plebiscite at the next general election in relation to migration to Australia, and for related purposes was put to the Senate by Senator Fraser Anning yesterday.  Crossbencher Fraser Anning has been widely condemned for speech praising white Australia policy and pushing for plebiscite a on Muslim immigration, which he calls the 'final solution'.

This is what was said:

Senator ANNING (Queensland) (17:08): I move:

That the following bill be introduced: A Bill for an Act to provide for a plebiscite at the next general election in relation to migration to Australia, and for related purposes. Plebiscite (Allowing Australians to Decide Who Comes Here) Bill 2018.

Question agreed to.

Senator ANNING: I present the bill and move:

That this bill may proceed without formalities and be now read a first time.

Question negatived.

Senator ANNING: I seek leave to make a short statement.

Leave not granted.

Here are the parts which are believed to be most relevant:

Part 2—Plebiscite on migration to Australia

2 3 5 Plebiscite on migration to Australia

(1) The Governor-General may cause a plebiscite to be held in 5 accordance with this Act.

6 (2) The first question to be submitted to electors at the plebiscite is:

7 “From December 2005 to December 2016 Australia’s population

8 grew from 20.5 million to 24.4 million; 62% of this growth was

9 from net overseas migration.

10 Do you think the current rate of immigration from all sources

11 should be substantially reduced?”.

12 (3) The second question to be submitted to electors at the plebiscite is:

13 “Currently, Australia indiscriminately selects migrants regardless

14 of their ethnicity, religion or country of origin. Left unchanged,

15 this policy will transform the ethnic basis of Australian society

16 over coming decades.

17 Do you think that, in order to facilitate assimilation of migrants and

18 to preserve the current ethnic composition of society, Australia’s

19 immigration policy should be changed to favour predominantly

20 European immigration?”.

21 (4) The third question to be submitted to electors at the plebiscite is:

22 “Muslim immigrants to Australia and their children have some of

23 the highest levels of welfare dependency and criminal conviction

24 rates of any group. There have also been repeated instances of

25 attempted terrorist attacks on the broader Australian community by

26 Muslims.

27 Given the record of previous Muslim immigrants to this country in

28 terms of welfare dependency, crime and terrorism, should further

29 Muslim immigration be prohibited?”.

What do you think?!

Would love that racist bigot to give me a call, or better still, be prepared to meet with me face to face. I hope that common sense and sanity prevails, and that the bile being spewed from the mouth of this irrelevant individual, be ignored.

This is an ugly, despicably racist piece of legislation.

One can only hope that persons of conscience on all sides of politics will see this open bigotry for what it is, recognise that it is antithetical to Australian values, and reject it outright.

It is appalling that anyone would put forward such a proposal, but let's not forget the source: Anning was kicked out of Katter's Australian Party for inflammatory rhetoric regarding immigration, including his reference to seeking a "final solution" to immigration issues.

That type of shameful language has no place whatsoever in Australian politics, it is the kind of chilling racist and white supremacist language that was at home in Nazi Germany.

Anning is evidently a bigot and a fool, the sooner he is gone from public life, the better.

The lack of response, opinion, and/or commentary on this matter, is most concerning.
