Wow! 4 years on. I was given free membership when I was forced to do the PRP. That alone was a waste of my money. It didn't really give me the necessary skills as a practitioner and I am thankful for my mentors in the industry or else I would have been one of the statistical drop outs that is very common in this industry. What would have been more helpful was actually giving us practical practice procedures guidelines to follow, rather than expand on what we learnt at our Grad Cert (not properly executed in my opinion - maybe it was the university I attended the course at). I think I would have preferred if MA could have delivered a PRP (focus more on practical scenarios are how one should actually engage with a client). My point to make; I personally felt the politics of MIA rather than an entity trying to promote more competent practising RMAs through attentive mentoring. It seems to me that the MIA does no want to rock the boat and having the ear of the government, they should do more to support the industry.
Don't get me wrong, there are some good people at the MIA, but I think the higher ups are more focused on pleasing DIBP rather than standing up for the industry and their members.
