Breaking Australian immigration news brought to you by Migration Alliance and associated bloggers.
The picture above is my son hugging the screen of his grandad, Des Ross.
Captain Des Ross migrated to Australia from Ireland on the SS Orsova in 1961 as a young child. Des Ross has become an international face in the media over recent years, providing expert commentary on the disappearance of aircraft such as the MH370.
Media organisations reporting on the MH370 have not necessarily been after quality reporting or information. They just want someone to fill in the story. Some media organisations aren't willing to pay to interview professionals and would prefer to find an armchair aviator who can make something sound half way correct.
Des Ross is not interested in being asked to attend interviews for nothing. He is too busy. If the media are interested in real information and proper intel on the MH370 from a proven expert aviator in the field, then Des Ross is the man for the job.
With the Sydney Morning Herald and other media organisations trying to book interviews with Des Ross, his time is now more precious than ever. Here are some of his most recent interviews:

Des Ross is my father in law. If you try and contact Des directly he will refer you back to me. Just in case it is not clear enough, nobody gets to Des Ross unless they get past me first.
The picture below is of Des Ross sitting next to his father on board the SS Orsova migrating from Belfast, Ireland to Adelaide, Australia (via Fremantle) in 1961. Australia is built on migrants who have brought children such as Des Ross, who then go on to become international experts in their field.

Which part of this story is surprising? Migrant success? It is a given. Media laziness? Another given. Busy hard workers having no time for free loaders? Definitely a given. Proud father-in-law, proud daughter-in-law? Great news. I love the picture. Thanks for the post.
