Liana Allan taking proxies for dual MIA-MA members

Liana Allan, RMA, Founder of Migration Alliance and a trustworthy advocate for all RMAs, has volunteered her time and resources to attend the MIA's EGM on the 18 February 2015 at 5:15pm to vote in 'no / against' the motion which will, if passed, allow 2 term limits for MIA Directors to be removed.  This would allow MIA's Directors to remain on the board forever.

Joint members of the MIA and MA have spoken.  It must be stopped.

Liana Allan originally set up Migration Alliance to protect and promote the interests of Registered Migration Agents and the RMA profession.  In effect, Migration Alliance has been set up as a counter-balance to the MIA.  Right now, Migration Alliance is going to come in very handy for MIA members who are not happy with the motion set out above.

With over 4000 RMA members, Migration Alliance has a huge number of dual members.  Migration Alliance represents the majority of the RMA profession.  This means that Liana Allan could effectively collect proxies to control the outcome of the MIA's motion at the EGM on the 18 February 2015.

In many ways this means the outcome is already a foregone conclusion.  But only if Liana Allan attends.  Liana Allan is currently trying to encourage accredited specialist lawyer, Christopher Levingston to accompany her to the EGM with proxies of his own.   If Mr Levingston agrees, and he is yet to confirm whether he will, then this should make for the most interesting MIA meeting in the last 10 years.

It is the Migration Alliance's objective to request livestreaming of the meeting so that all MA-MIA joint members can view the proceedings.  Migration Alliance imagines that such a request will be blocked by the 'powers but be' but will push for it nonetheless.

Mary RMA - anonymous so MIA can't find out Monday, 09 February 2015

At least we know we can trust Liana to represent our interests. If she is willing to go to this meeting, which would not be easy for her, and stand up for us and our future then I am giving her my proxy. Liana is a warrior for us agents who lack courage and a voice.

Liana has nothing to gain for helping MIA that I can see. Send her your proxy. She will fight for what's right for us as usual. The MIA has lost control and it's members have clearly lost faith.

Why are RMAs playing politics? We already get enough persecution from DIBP; in-fighting just makes it worse. I agree that one person should not have indefinite directorship, but if the person is doing the job well, then should be allowed to continue. Are we saying anyone becoming a director at MIA is just a puppet figurehead?

Our government changes Immigration Ministers too often and they come into the portfolio with limited knowledge about the laws. It's the senior case officers in the Department that steer policy, which is the big headache. There is prejudice on DIBP website highlighting that RMAs are not required to assist them with their visas. Visa applicants will apply on their own and when they get in trouble (because they do not understand what they have done), they then run to an RMA. Any RMA who then helps the visa applicant will be deemed by DIBP as dodgy practitioners because they feel that this problem was the result of the RMA. I've only been an RMA for 2 years and cannot see justice prevailing for RMAs. In most cases I have found case officers non-responsive to RMA emails (forget about any phone contact) and they will only call if it serves their own self interest. I understand that they have a huge case load, but that is just a convenient excuse. Wouldn't it be in their best interest to resolve visa applications promptly to avoid the back log?

Anon, RMAs wanting to remain on as Directors of the MIA board are playing politics. Migration Alliance seeks to stop it.

You have my proxy for voting AGAINST MIA Board members staying on the Board forever.
I think it's reasonable to set a Term for holding the office in order to give others a chance. Also to allow members the opportunity to vote the board member into office again if they wish.(i.e if the encumbent is willing & the members are happy with his/her services).

But there's neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,
When two strong women stand face to face, tho' they come from the ends of the earth!
.... the female of the species is far deadlier than the male !
