Recently MIA held an offshore CPD and support seminar in partnership with DIBP in China. I wrote to MIA asking what steps it had put in place to ensure that non MARA registered agents in China are not empowered and legitimised through this CPD sessions. Of course I received no response, as MIA is busy building its empire and bank balance, rather than protecting the interest of its constituent members.
For far too long our profession has been associated with unregistered people (both in and outside of Australia) by people in "ivory towers" who seem to think that they are unaccountable.
Its about time the minister realised that an "Independent Commissioner" and preventing unregistered people from lodging applications is the only way to lift the reputation the general public has for RMA's. A reputation that the DIBP is tacitly supporting by producing "Secret Lists"
If RMA's who have never been sanctioned or disciplined by MARA are to be judged by "unaccountable" people this profession has some serious problems the minister must address, because this DIBP perception is extremely damaging.
