Breaking Australian immigration news brought to you by Migration Alliance and associated bloggers.
Migration agents have faced difficulties with NSW nominations which opened today and are experiencing issues faced due to their website and the payment system.
We are currently trying to establish whether the NSW processing office received 1000 applications within one hour of opening or whether it is closed temporarily due to technical glitches.
An agent has reported as follows:
"I was not even able to open the link at all before 9:30 am and when it was opened I could not even go to the payment page. The payment page was not loading and after some time I have received the temporarily closed error. I have eleven applications to lodge for the NSW. All of them meet the eligibility requirements of NSW. Please provide us some update regarding this. I have tried to contact the NSW migration phone line but I could not get it connected. I have made everything ready for the e-lodgement and I could not even complete a single application. Some of them has very few months left in their current visa.
I believe NSW should adopt something similar to Queensland nomination system."
Migration Alliance has requested feedback on this issue and will place updates here.
Comments would be most appreciated.

New Online Processing for Skilled Migration
Why was a new online process implemented?
Until now NSW have had a paper based applicationsystem and payment has been by bank cheque or money order. The system has been modernised to allow online applications and electronic payment by credit card. This is a major improvement to the NSW processfor Skilled Nominated visa applications.
Why is the application process being staggeredacross the year?
NSW has a limit of 4,000 places available each year for State nominated Skilled Migration. In 2013-14 the 4,000 places were filled by December 2013 and no applications could be lodged for the first six months of 2014
The application intake for 2014-15 has been staggered across the year to enable better management of the processing of applications. It will also enable monitoring of applications to manage occupational diversity. It is planned that another three intakes of 1,000 applicationsper intake will be scheduled in 2014-15. Details of the proposed intakes are published on the website. These dates may change once the July 2014 intake has been processed and reviewed. Please continue to check the website for further information.
Why a 1,000 limit on each intake?
We have planned for one intake each quarter to allow for processing time and to avoid backlogs. It also allowstime to analyse the intake. The analysis will identify ineligible applications and any places that have not been filled will be available in later intakes
Applicants are required to undertake a self-assessment against a set of criteria which is then reviewed by the Migration Services Team. Our experience is that applicants are unlikely to apply if they do not meet the points test and that most applicants are successful in gaining nomination.
Can paper based applications be submitted now?
No-only on-line applications will be accepted. Paper applications will not be assessed.
Have you had any technical problems with the online system?
Despite extensive testing undertaken prior to the launch of the new online system, some teething problems were expected. Because of the large number of applications lodged at one time, the application server shut down and issues detected (e.g. difficulty nominating an occupation and calculation of age). A number of usershave provided valuable feedback and this will assist us to refine the system so that it is improved in time for the next intake. The introduction of the online system is major reform which we are improving on a continual basis. User feedback is essential for this process.
I experienced technical issues which prevented me from making my payment. What can I do?
An application will only be considered where payment was successfully made and confirmed with a payment receipt which contains a one to three digit reference number.
If you would like to apply at a future date, you will need to apply in the next intake. Your application would be considered if you have submitted a complete application and successfully made payment. Please refer to thewebsite: Live and Work in NSWwww.business.nsw.gov.au/live-and-work-in-nsw
When was it decided to announce the opening of the applications on 14 July?
The date for the launch of the new system was announced on the NSW Trade & Investment website on 1 July 2014.
What alternatives are available to skilled migrants who failed to successfully submit their application in this intake?
We plan to conduct three more intakes in 2014-15 andprospective applicants are able to apply.
The NSW Government also encourages potential applicants to try alternative pathways, including exploring opportunities to gain regional sponsorship. There are significant opportunities in regional NSW for skilled migrants and potential applicants are encouraged to visit NSW Trade & Investment’s(www.business.nsw.gov.au/live-and-work-in-nsw )website for more details.
When will my application be processed?
Applications will be dealt with in receipt order and we will publish updated processing times on the websiteregularly. We anticipate proving an update on processing times for the July 2014 intake on the 31stJuly.
My visa is expiring and I was not able to apply. What can I do?
State nomination is one of a range of visa options that prospective migrants can consider. For more information on other visa options, prospective applicants can refer to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website (www.immi.gov.au).
You are right Mohammad the system was pathetically administered. As you may know now the applications have been closed. It would have been fairer just to let everyone register who wanted sponsorship, put them in all in a barrel and pull out the lucky winners one by one till they reached their quota. At least then everyone would have been satisfied they were given a fair go.

What a grand stuff up the new online NSW system was today. At our office we were only able to lodge one of the applications of the more than a dozen prepared and it seems by all accounts we were lucky to get that in.
No professional can work on such a system of just pot luck whether you can lodge an application for people pay money on the assurance of being able to get the job done. The NSW government has set up a system that may work for some individuals but not for professional representatives.
Whoever the bright spark who thought up their application procedure should hang their head in shame or was it deliberate to undermine migration professionals?

Exactly what Karl said. This system means that client's are disadvantaged using an agent for the nomination process as going through an agent adds necessary delay in making the nomination. This is not good for either the state or DIBP because it means there are no agents checking client's eligibility and so the state will ultimately end up with a higher rate of refused visa applications.
This is not the first time. A similar situation occurred earlier this month with South Australia and ICT Business Development Manager. The occupation was closed the same morning it was released.
within 3 hours to be precise...
I count my blessings now that I was able to push in 1 of my applications and I only need to explain myself (and the system) to the remaining 4 unlucky candidates. Joining to the colleagues above; it is quite a disadvantage to be an RMA in this arena as it is physically impossible to complete any more than one application in the window of just 30 minutes (the link reopened at ~9.45 am and by ~10.20am the last place was snapped up), which is a decent window for the aspiring applicant with speedy typing skills but an RMA with a few clients lined up does not stand a chance...
We RMA-s in the field all predicted (feared) something like this, especially after 1 July in SA, but someone at NSW Gov did not do a proper research to underestimate the demand by such a long shot... I hope the next round will be restricted appropriately so no such "virtual bloodbath" would happen again for those 1000 places.
Anyone was able to file the application today to NSW. I spent 3 hours in front of the computer....I was able to open the application form, but not able to enter the date of birth....got frustrated. Several times the form opened but with the same problem. Any successful log in this this October intake
Hi Mannuara
You were not alone in your experience I'm afraid, most people experienced the same thing. You can read about what happened with the fiasco NSW sponsorship program here (http://archive.constantcontact.com/fs092/1106091886176/archive/1107439026932.html) and another article will follow today regarding Friday's announcement.

This is written on the website of NSW regarding the online application:
NSW was pleased to receive a high number of applications in the first 2014-15 intake. We are currently reviewing the applications received and will make an announcement regarding further opening in due course. The online application system will not be available until further notice.
The NSW SMP LIST is effective as of 14/07/2014 and this announcement is at the day of the new list comes into effect !
I tried to lodge an application at 9:30 AM on 14/07/2014 and the online system was down and NSW announces at 4:30 PM on 14/07/2014 that online application system is not available until further notice ?
What does this mean ? Should I have woken up at 2:00 AM to lodge the application ? Like those who line up prior the night that a new iPhone is coming to market !
