Breaking Australian immigration news brought to you by Migration Alliance and associated bloggers.
Malaysian born with Chinese Ancestry, Caroline Hong has lived, worked and built her career in Australia for over three decades.
Armed with several Australian tertiary qualifications, she is well known in Australia for her passion, commitment and advocacy for the SME sector, notably in her role as International Ambassador of the SME Association of Australia, Ambassador of Australia China Business Week and President of China HR.
Over the past 15 years, she has held three CEO roles of leading industry associations in the healthcare and business sectors, and is widely recognised and admired as an Australia-Asia SME Expert.
For the first time in its history, Australia finds itself located in the right place at the right time - in the Asian region in the Asian century.
Migration Alliance is fully aware of the changing dynamics and drivers within our region and the impact on our members who report on increasing interest, activity and demand for their advice and services coming from Asia. New Asian migrants with business skills, experience, connections and capital provide a much needed boost to Australia’s prospects in the Asian Century.
It is therefore the ideal moment for Migration Alliance to appoint Dr Caroline Hong, a high profile Australian-Asian, to our board as our first Ambassador.
Caroline travels extensively to attend business events in Australia, overseas and especially engaging in the Asia century, providing ideal opportunities to promote Migration Alliance, helping it grow its membership and promote its voice.
Migration issues are to be given as much attention as for trade and commerce in Australia.
Speaking three languages and several dialects, Caroline‘s experience extends across business, health, government, community, business events and not-for profit sectors and she has deep and long established networks and relationships throughout the Asia Pacific region.
We look forward to introducing Caroline to our members at future events, conferences and other functions, and know you will be seeing lots more of her via social media, articles, blogs and newsletters.

She seems to focus only on China. I trust it is the flavour of the season. How about other parts of Asia such as Malaysia, Singapore, India, Nepal and more all dynamically emerging markets .A word of warning, if you are not of Chinese decent and not competent in Mandarin you can end up as mincemeat in hands of local agents in China. That has been experience for the last two years.
Not every bogan understands Australia very well either. Try telling NASA 'how long have you lived in space?' as a means of explaining they know very little. How long someone has lived in China doesn't equate to understanding Chinese. How about Australian- born Chinese? Or Chinese living in Indonesia. There is more to the roll of an Ambassador of a brand than where they live or lived. It's about a skill set for the job. Do you think all Ambassadors for Rolex came from Switzerland? And do you think all Ambassadors for not for profit or charities come from third world countries? I was born in Australia of Chinese parents. I think I understand the Chinese. I visit my relatives once a year in China. There is more to being Chinese in 2014 than living in China.
Think about the role.
Caroline is a perfect mix.
My caution is to others is based on my 16 months intense interaction with the numerous PRC licenced agent around the Northern Provinces mainly in Beijing. These PRC agents have huge operations based gullible and desperate clients. Customers protection does not exist except through the common consumer protection legal procedure which the clients dare not use for fesr of intrusion into their wealth. Australian agents, particularly those who are not of Chinese background or not competent in language will languish, unless they too are prepared compromise on their ethics and integrity. Even the Singapore government and Singapore Chinese businessmen have been conned of millions in China. An Ambassador, for migration purposes, drawn from any background outside China would be of little value unless such a person has LIVED and OPERATED in China with integrity for at least 5 years. The Chinese in China are indeed hungry for information but they will remain glued to their entrenched practices.
No malice ot offence to anyone intended.

I cannot see anywhere that it says Caroline Hong is an Ambassador for China. She is an Ambassador for Migration Alliance Inc. She is in China with Chinese professionals all the time. They speak and live and breathe Mandarin and the Chinese way. Caroline is an Aussie with an Asian face!

My comment was not meant to imply that she is the Ambassador solely to China . I understand she is heading a series of business and migration expos in China, with no mention of other parts of Asia . My comments were in the form of my experience in China dealing with Chinese agents and potential business clients, as a word of caution.
I extend both congratulations and thanks to Dr Hong in taking on the role of Ambassador for MA. I have no doubt that her vast experience, knowledge and compassion will serve to provide a valuable contribution to MA, its members and stakeholders.
