Australians strive together to find solutions which help increase Australia's greatness. Australia's laws and culture have been shaped by this history.
If you are a permanent resident or considering permanent residence in Australia then please become a citizen of Australia or make it your aim.
This wonderful country will then also be yours and for those in your family and generations of your future Australian family to come.

As an Australian citizen you are obliged to 'give' Australia four things:
1/ Vote in Local, State and Federal elections
2/ Agree to obey Australian laws
3/ Rise up to defend Australia if needed
4/ Serve on a jury (in a court) if asked
If you are an Australian citizen then you get certain things too, otherwise known as the gifts. These are the six things you will get:
1/ The right to work in the Public Service or Military
2/ The right to obtain an Australian passport which allows you to come and go freely from Australia and also helps with entry to other countries too
3/ Receive consular assistance whilst overseas if needed
4/ Receive the right to vote in Local, State and Federal Elections
5/ Join a political party and seek to enter parliament if you wish
6/ Register any children you may have whilst you are living outside Australia as Australian Citizens (by descent)
Australia has strong values and the main three are democracy, freedom and equality.
This is good news for migrants to Australia as it means that Australians agree to obey the law, live peacefully, have compassion for those in need and respect for other irresepective of their background.
Australian citizens enjoy the freedom of association with one another, the free exercise of the religion of their choice, and the freedom of speech.
Women and men are equal and treated equally in Australia and have the same rights. This means there is an equality of opportunity as well.
