- On Saturday, the West Australian reported Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is facing calls from within his party to give States the ability to raise their own income tax to help pay for new roads and services, amid warnings that cities face a ‘population shock’. Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said that this year Australia must reduce its intake of migrants where it was in the ‘national interest’ because some cities were overcrowded.
- The Canberra Times yesterday reported the number of millionaires entering Australia has surged to 7260 in the past year. Visa applications in the Business Innovation and Investment Programme, which includes investors with more than $1 million in business assets, jumped by 74 per cent in 2016-17.
