The entry ban takes effect from 9pm AEDT Friday, 20 March 2020, with exemptions only for Australian citizens, permanent residents and their immediate family, including spouses, legal guardians and dependants.
New Zealand citizens who live in Australia as Australian residents are also exempt, as are New Zealanders transiting to New Zealand. Exemptions for Pacific Islanders transiting to their home countries will continue to apply.
Australian citizens and permanent residents and those exempt from our entry restrictions will continue to be subject to a strict 14 days self-isolation.
Our number one priority is to slow the spread of coronavirus to save lives.

OLD WAY -> NEW WAY -> OR THE HIGHWAY!
What about provisional visa holders?
I have a client whose Significant Investor Visa has been granted - invested $5m - now cannot enter.
Another whose 489 visa finalised, resigned jobs, sold house, planned entry in June 2020 - now cannot enter.
This beggars some serious concerns about the country's need for skilled overseas workers (such as TSS), I act for a large number of companies who have a reliance on an overseas workforce due to the inability to attract local labour. A number of them have crew overseas either on their 12 month rotation or new TSS visa holders scheduled to fly in Saturday & Sunday.
If I read this correctly, they will not meet the "enter by" date and must now make new application at a time to be decided. So, therefore the company is not only going to loose substantial income from their inability to go fishing but also SAF and other costs associated with obtaining a TSS (the company's pays all costs including airfares). Will there be a relaxation for TSS workers, even if they are prepared to take a COVID-19 swab before and after departure plus 14 days isolation. Nobody is disputing the need for aggressive action in these dark times but we also need to keep the country moving. Mr Morrison, work with us to find a workable balance.
