Recent Case Study – Technical Sales Representative

We recently handled a case in which a consumer product wholesale business was planning to hire a Technical Sales Representative. On the surface, it may seem like a straightforward case, especially because the position fits the nature of the business. However, the case officer still questioned about the genuine position.

Apart from compiling and addressing the IMMI checklist in a thorough and logical way through a methodological approach, we structured the genuine position report that harnessed the need of the nominated occupation within this particular business’ context.

We analysed the case within the viewpoint of the wholesale and consumer product industry and were able to appropriately structure a report that:

  • was written in a third-person perspective;
  • understood the business context and the employer’s situation by putting ourselves in the clients’ shoes and empathise with the clients through our writing;
  • still maintained an analytical perspective to structure a report in a logical order that would best make sense for the case officer;

The nomination was successful and needless to say, all parties were ecstatic. Some observations we would like to share is:

 1. Keep to the point and do not over-elaborate = sometimes too much  information can backfire as case officers may nit-pick on them

 2. Give an overview of the type of product/service the company offers as well  as some insight into the industry = not all case officers are knowledgeable in all fields of business

 3. Explain more on the need for the position in the company and not too much on the need for the particular nominee in the company = it is to prove genuine need for occupation and not particular person
