TV network receives complaint that Migration Alliance is not a peak body

Liana Allan has received a call from a TV network today requesting that she assist them to respond to a complaint.

According to the Producer who called Ms Allan, 'someone' has emailed in a complaint stating that Migration Alliance is a private organisation, and that they have been duped by Liana Allan, or words to that effect.

The complaint apparently also suggested that Migration Alliance is not a peak professional body and that it only got its members by 'lifting a list of agents' from somewhere, or words to that effect.

The TV network have had to resort to calling the Office of the MARA to verify that Migration Alliance is, in fact, a peak body in the migration profession.  Liana Allan has also sent the TV network evidence by way of email this afternoon which deals with the complaint.

Migration Alliance (MA) is an Incorporated Association and not a private company.

Migration Alliance is run by a board and a committee.

Liana Allan is the current Convenor of the MA Board.

For more information on Migration Alliance please click 'About us' and 'Our people' above.   In addition do a basic google search.

Migration Alliance Inc is free to join.

Migration Alliance has over 4000 members.

One can only hazard a guess as to where the complaint is likely to have originated from.  Our best guess is that it originates from a person associated with an institution which didn't get the exposure.

We suggest that 'sour grapes' is the main motivation for the complaint.

If anyone has any questions please write to Beatriz Leoncini, the Secretary of Migration Alliance, on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Sad, but not a surprise to me. I can suggest it was MISSING IN ACTION who made the complaint. Migration Alliance is a peak professional association.

Now this is truly a sad thing to do. Surely jealousy from the other organisation? MA is at least open and transparent about stuff.

This is such a low act. Lucky MA is strong and lucky Liana is also strong to handle this malicious act. If it is the TV network that aired last night's program on Prasad then I think someone can get the details of the complaint under FOI.

In fact, Migration Alliance is listed on Wikipedia as one of example of peak organisation or peak body: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peak_organisation

The TV network in question has just confirmed they have everything they need to address the complaint.

Well Folks, we do the best we can; every single one of us is entitled to our own opinions, regardless of the motivation and if there was a motivation behind it, well... some mothers do'ave them... We may be rather unorthodox in some of our approaches, both proactive and reactive; but that comes from being a very diverse and dynamic group, with with lots of differing strengths, skills, attributes and opinions which we offer to Registered Migration Agents everywhere for THEIR benefit. It's not pretty when stuff like this happens (the matter reported by the ABC, I mean) but someone's gotta raise it... I believe MA plays a very important advocacy role in relation to the Migration Industry alongside other Peak Industry bodies and everyone's role IS important.

We're all entitled to our opinions and this blog is clearly representative of it (including yours truly). Let's bear in mind that we're all here for pretty similar reasons - to serve, assist and empower our membership and the Industry, regardless of who's leading the charge.

Thanks for the feedback and the calls, which I'm sure will continue, until something else comes up. :)

It is really disappointing to see that someone in our industry has made such an unfounded complaint in response to last night's 7.30 report.
Liana, your interview was excellent. It was very clear that your discussion was based around genuine concern for our industry, and for migrants who seek advice.
As a member, I have turned to MA for advice and always received the support I needed.
How on earth could MA not be considered an industry body?
Why would someone want to complain when Liana is clearly trying to protect our industry, and the people who are most vulnerable. Something doesn't gel :(
