A Bill for and Act to amend the Australian Citizenship Act 2007, and for related purposes.

In 2015, the current terrorism-related citizenship loss provisions were included in the Australian Citizenship Act because of the threat that foreign terrorist fighters presented to Australia and its interests.

These provisions have helped protect the Australian community and ensure Australian citizenship remains compatible with the shared values of the Australian community.

Notwithstanding, around 80 Australians of counter-terrorism interest are believed to be still in Syria and Iraq, some of whom may seek to return to Australia.

The Instrument operates to specify the approved forms for making a valid application for a Business Skills Business Talent (Permanent) (Class EA) visa; Business Skills (Permanent) (Class EC) visa; Business Skills (Provisional) (Class EB) visa; Business Skills (Residence) (Class DF) visa; Distinguished Talent (Migrant) (Class AL) visa; Distinguished Talent (Residence) (Class BX) visa; and Business Skills (Provisional) (Class UR) visa. The Instrument further operates to specify the place for lodgement and the manner in which an application must be made to ensure a valid application is made for the relevant visa class.

The purpose of the Instrument is to specify the manner in which a Distinguished Talent (Migrant) (Class AL) visa application can be made. In addition to the existing arrangements of lodging an application by post or courier service delivery, the added option, which provides an additional benefit to applicants, is an applicant can lodge an application through the Department of Home Affairs online lodgement portal at the following address: https://immi.homeaffairs.com.au/global-talent-contact-form.

This week I received an anonymous call to my mobile phone from a male person.  The male, who refused to identify himself, claims to have been in the courtroom some time in the the past week, where he was expecting Eddy Kang to show up and face charges.

Eddy Kang did not show up and and has now disappeared.  It seems he is now 'on the run'.

Have you been wondering about what has happened in The Tamil Refugee Case?

As you know, that is the very high profile case that has been unfolding in the Federal Courts, concerning the attempts of a Sri Lankan family of Tamil ethnicity to avoid removal from Australia. 

The family is composed of the parents, Priya and Nades, both of whom arrived in Australia by boat, and their two daughters, Kopika and Tharunicaa, who were both born in Australia.  They have lived in the community of Biloela in rural Queensland for a number of years, and have received vocal public support from members of that community for their efforts to avoid removal from Australia.
