1.      Employer Sponsored Entry Program

The Home Affairs released the following statement in relation to Employer Nomination as well as Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme.  The provisions will come into effect on Monday, 3 September 2018 which include new arrangements for managing queries regarding refusal decisions for the Permanent Employer Sponsored Entry (PESE) program (subclass 186 and 187 visas) will come into effect.

The purpose of the instrument is to specify an increased daily amount for the purpose of subsection 262(2) of the Act. The amount calculated is based on an average across all facilities based on the bandwidth aligned with the operational capacity of each facility with a daily rate of $489.11. 

The new rate has been approved by the Department of Home Affairs’ Chief Finance Officer to reflect the current cost of keeping and maintaining a person in immigration detention. The amount recoverable includes:

- The amount applicable to the person for the cost of keeping and maintaining the person while in immigration detention, as per paragraph 262(1)(c) of the Act.

The purpose of the instrument is to update the approved place and manner for Medical Treatment (Visitor) (Class UB) visa applications.  The postal address and address for courier delivery were amended to addresses in Queensland, and the fax number was removed, and replaced with an email address. 

The Department’s name has also been updated from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to the Department of Home Affairs to reflect the new name of the Department.

The following is the 'Morrison Ministry'.

Migration Alliance members will be interested to learn that the new Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs (DICMA) is now David Coleman MP.  Importantly this position is NOT in Cabinet.  

Alex Hawke MP has been moved to Special Minister of State and is no longer the Assistant Immigration Minister.
