Is it just me or is the DIBP deliberately trying to confuse all of us. Back in April, they used tax payer money and resources to create "new names" for already established lists. They then take off over 200 occupations from these lists... wait there is more they then go and create caveats for jobs on these lists. Hit the forward button to July they now put some of the occupations they took off in April back onto these wonderful lists.
What exactly is going in in the administration of DIBP. How can the DIBP play with the lives of potential migrants. How can legislation that has been the backbone of Immigration policy for so many years be disrupted and toyed with by the policy makers. The web of transitory legislative changes are so entwined that even the senior policy makers won't understand how each change effects the other, let alone us Registered Migration Agents that are left with interpretation of these changes to clients that can only look at us in dismay. Change is always necessary but unprecedented amounts of change which shakes the fundamentals of legislation that has been in place for so many years is questionable. Has DIBP ironed out all the transitory changes or is the immigration industry (agents, migrants, lawyers, experts, academics) required to knock on their door and do this for them. First time in the 12 years of being in the industry that I am left pondering about exactly where are we heading.
Dear Charon, while I agree with your comments I must take issue with your last sentence. I think you have forgotten the period following the GFC when the Minister changed the policy on skilled migration on an almost daily basis, depending on the side of the bed he got up from and then the Ministers kept changing, almost on a daily basis! I don't think we have recovered from that period. Anyway, as the Good Lord said: "forgive them for they know not what they are doing" or words to that effect!! Cheers

It will be interesting to see what happens with the occupation 'Physicist' as the instrument indicates that only medical physicist need apply while the combined occupations page seems to suggest both normal and medical physicists are capable of applying. Considering the government's effort to encourage study in STEM subjects and to bring the best and brightest to Australia, it would be a shame if we were were to exclude the next Brian Schmidt.
