International Women's Week: Presenting Dominique Firriolo from Australia

Women and fighting.  Not really a traditional "girl's choice" for sport.

Dominique Firriolo is an Australian female Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter.  She's ranked number 1 in Australia in her division, and is forging ahead in a male-dominated sport.  I can't resist promoting Dominique (of Italian heritage), to help her to reach her dreams.  Yes, my choice is extreme, but then when have I ever been one to choose a nice, safe path?  C'mon RMAs.  Let's help Dominique! #IWD2016

The theme of IWD 2016 is #PledgeforParity

"Everyone - men and women - can pledge to take a concrete step to help achieve gender parity more quickly - whether to help women and girls achieve their ambitions, call for gender-balanced leadership, respect and value difference, develop more inclusive and flexible cultures or root out workplace bias. Each of us can be a leader within our own spheres of influence and commit to take pragmatic action to accelerate gender parity."

About Dominique

WHY I STARTED BJJ

I commenced BJJ in 2015 and at the time it was simply an element of my MMA goals. BJJ was a way for me to focus in a way that I never knew existed. From the moment I started BJJ I have most definitely improved as a person.

MY BJJ GOALS AND TRAINING

BJJ has become so much more than a sport for me. I have transitioned from MMA to pure full time BJJ and Wrestling. Once starting the sport I fell in love with it. I train 5-6 days a week in order to become the best practitioner that I can possibly be. But my goals extend beyond winning. I want to promote the sport amongst women. I want women to feel confident and welcomed on the mat so that Australia can continue to have a growing and high performance level of women in BJJ.

SO WHY YOUR COMPANY

I have competed at every opportunity available as a means of promoting the sport amongst women. But I feel as though a company sponsorship will provide a solid platform for me to access the BJJ community and further promote participation. If sponsored I would get out into the community at every available chance and come along to company promotions as requested. I will compete at every opportunity to my highest level and endorse the brand with pride.

WHAT I WILL DO FOR YOUR COMPANY

I would be a walking billboard. BJJ events have upwards of 300 competitors, 500 family members, as well as coaches and team support. All events include photography, meaning that your brand will be photographed. Part of sponsorship means that I would wear your brand on my uniform and training uniform. Your company will be mentioned on social media posts and be promoted through word of mouth.

SPONSORSHIP REQUIREMENTS

There are usually 3 levels of sponsorship in BJJ:

1) sports uniform/clothing (usually from a sporting company)

2) paid entry fees for competition, or

3) paid entry fees and training fees
