For all those people thinking about calling 131 881 to speak to someone in a DIBP call centre here are some tips:
PHONE CALL 1
1. Always ask the operator what their name is. They may only give you a first name.
2. Always as them what their position number is. They must tell you their position number.
3. Make sure you write their name and position number down.
4. Make sure you write the time of your call.
5. Write down the information that you are being told.
5. Double-check the information that you have been provided by making a second phone call.
PHONE CALL 2
Repeat the steps in PHONE CALL 1 again and check that the operator provides you with exactly the same information as you received in PHONE CALL 1.
If you do not receive the same information both times, assume that the information you are being provided by 131 881 is flawed or inconsistent.
REMEDY IF YOU ARE GETTING DIFFERENT ANSWERS EACH TIME YOU PHONE 131 881
Find then phone or email a Registered Migration Agent. Registered Migration Agents have proven sound knowledge and insurance for the advice they provide.
You can find a Registered Migration Agent using the search function on this website, or by visiting the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority on www.mara.gov.au
THE VISA APPLICATION ITSELF
It is your life and your visa application to Australia, so make sure you get it right the first time around.
WHY DID WE WRITE THIS?
To protect the consumer and give the consumer (visa applicant) every opportunity to help protect themselves. People on the 131 881 helpline are not interested in the outcomes of Australian visa applications and are not involved in the decision-making on Australian visa applications. They are not insured for the advice they provide and have no expert knowledge in Australian immigration law.
INTERESTING WEIRD FACT
The 131 881 call centre staff don't refer callers to the Office of the MARA so that callers /consumers can speak to a properly trained professional about their case.
Perhaps it is because 131 881 call centre staff don't want their advice second-guessed or proven plain wrong. It is not understood why the 131 881 call centre staff don't refer callers / consumers to the government website where callers / consumers can find registered professionals who offer proper advice and assistance.
Test the 131 881 number yourself and you will see what we are talking about!
HI Kiran,
You can apply by paper or online by yourself, all you need to do is gather all the require documents that listed on the form, fill the form and pay the fees. I applied online is much easier than the paper. this is the website please go on it and find out about it,
https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Citi/pathways-processes/Application-fees-forms-and-appeals/Citizenship-online-applications
I hope this will help if you haven't got it yet.

I am so mad at the Public sector of Immigration. I called today and got through after 1 hour and 45mins and when I go through the lady didn't want to repeat her name and she didn't want to look up the file and she said she wanted to check if we were in the right department. I knew I was in the right department as I was calling about the citizenship application. When I asked for her manager she terminated my call. What am I meant to do now and how can I get the right information. The wait time is long
Hi Karin
I don't know your individual circumstances. From 1 July 2017, We kiwis can apply for PR and once approved you wait for 1 more year and apply for Australian citizenship. You don't need a migration agent now to apply for Australian PR,especially if you are a kiwi. Visit the link below.

Hi saw,
I think you just need to inform them about your new passport, if your visa is not expired yet, in my case when I applied for my pr visa the immi said I do not need sticker on my passport, If I want sticker I have pay extra for it on top of the fees. But the best thing to do is please call the immi and ask them how to go about it. Because they have up to date information..
Good luck,
Hi I have been waiting for contact back from border protection about my citizenship process but the answer I get when I ring is it is still being processed I sent it back in May does it usually take this long I have lived in Australia for 45 years came out on mum and dads visas from England ..?
Hi i am Ana i am currently applying for RSMS visa class 187. This is my third time to apply in the same visa.the first two, my agent said i need to withdraw the application because i am short of the required years of experience.and then i applied again February 2017 and still i haven't got my visa yet. my agent guaranteed me that the immigration officer told him that once i applied again it will be granted and they can expedite it so i can get my visa in 2 months. it's been 8 months now and i still don't have any news about it. really desperate to get my visa because i haven't seen my mom for a long time. hope you can help me.
Hi there,
Could someone assist me with my questions;
I have a valid Int'l passport and need to renew my re-entry visa (BB155) as it expired in 2013.
My questions are (1) what form do I need to complete ? (2) is there a contact number for the Parramatta Office to call direct ? (3) can I apply in person and receive my Visa on the same day ? Cheers
Cheers
