For an un-named staffer from MA to reply to Victoria like I saw in an email is a disgusting disgrace. I was a public servant reaching Director level with 300 staff and came into the RMA field as a semi=retirement business and am already very successful. I was also in private industry for many years. I have seen inside the PS and yes, some are lazy and yes, the DIBP is not the best. The un-named MA staffer brings MA down with her attitude. The MIA is too close to the DIBP but at least gets the ear of the Minister. The MA through the attitude displayed by this un-named staffer is will never represent the views of the RMA field. I just hope that we can get a middle of the road professional organisation to represent us strongly but professionally. It ain't this joint.....especially when we get these stupid comment from this un-named staffer.
Ian - the unnamed person is me, Liana Allan. So your guess was right. The person is a female! Does your comment make you a sexist? No! Lots of people worked at the DIBP including Christopher Levingston and Michael Jeremy, to name two. Not many people who have left have made it to Director Level. You obviously left because you reached the ceiling and could see better options on the outside. Clearly not all are underperformers in there, but sorry, my opinion is that most of them are, compared to the people I deal with on the outside. Please feel free to defend the DIBP all you like. It justifies your choice to have worked there. It does not however alter my opinion. If you like I can invite you to a meeting where 10 or so ex-DIBP can tell you exactly what they think of the DIBP and exactly how dysfunctional it is in there and then you will see what I am talking about. If you were too high up maybe you didn't get to see the rot.
Alana, of course I knew it was you. And of course you assumed I worked at the DIBP. I didn't. And the MIA is not middle of the road, it is too left. And you are correct, the views expressed by the now named staffer are not professional. I must have misunderstood the goal of the MA when I joined.
Ian my name is Liana. Not Alana. You wrote that you worked at the DIBP to Director level. I didn't assume. If you thought the MA was a place where people could not have an opinion then yes you did misunderstand. MA is about agents being free. Whether you think I am professional or disgraceful is a matter for you. What's your last name Ian? Feel free to come and go from here as you like. My position will remain unchanged. DIBP staffers, on the most part, are second-rate.
Vikky Victoria if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. Nobody is forcing you to be on here or participate. MA is based in real people with real views who aren't afraid to say what they think. If you are looking for 'nice' and 'moderate' then go to the MIA where it's all coated in sugar. From another RMA who speaks English as a third language. All you need to do is use spell and grammar check. Whoever you are.
Victoria who is now aka Vicky or whatever - so you are allowed to waltz into here and throw stones but nobody is allowed to throw back? I agree this is not the right place for you.
Public servants are notoriously second rate. Hence the word 'servant'. If they were masters at anything they would leave. And the best ones do. I know some who were too good for the department.
TONY AND ZHANG
I can 'handle the heat'. in fact I don't mind what she says about me at all. I simply pointed out I may have made a grammatical error or two due to English not being my first language - I didn't say she was judgmental for that. I said she was judgemental for looking down upon Public servants - and I still stand by that thought.
That is my opinion - If it's too harsh for you I can attempt to sugar coat it ?
Actually no we don't want the Dept to listen to us. They don't listen to us. They don't consult. They just do as they please and then tell us what they have decided. Anyone who thinks that MIA, MA or anyone has any sway with the Department is deluded. I know. I was an adviser to the Minister once. The Minister listens to people of influence who they know. They really don't care about what the MIA or MA want.
They are interested in good policy and cost saving or cutting, which makes the Minister look good.
By the way I know Liana does have the ear of the Minister. So whoever you are that thinks she does not, you need to get your facts straight. Do some fact finding first and find out how connected Liana really is. Don't guess.
Victoria it might come as a surprise to you but most agents can't stand the DIBP or other public servants. Just like the public can't stand them. I think Liana might be cynical as she has had to deal with too many of them. Maybe she needs to take a short break and come back renewed and loving public servants. I love Liana for her views even if I don't agree. I don't think it is the people she doesn't like (as in personally) but their choice of profession, to then start bossing around the private sector (us). She has a point. The MARA are public servants but they are whipping us daily, not serving us RMAs. I am pretty sure Liana has had her fair share of unhappy moments with the Department and its staff. If you take time to read the blogs on here you can see how hard MA fights against the injustices of the government and their oppressive ways.
Anyway, I like the thread about Prakash and I think he is handsome and funny.
1. Prakash is good looking and professional
2. Ian is a bully and pretended he knew it was Liana when he had no idea who it was and called the MA staffer a female then tried to pretend it was a joke
3. Victoria you need to stop being judgemental if you want others not to be judgemental
4. Everyone calm down - the public service sux - which is why I use Prakash now as my agent because the public service stuffed my life up
5. Liana might apologise to Victoria for correcting her spelling if she wants
6. Victoria if you use language like disgraceful about other people's opinions then expect them to lash back hard
Liana does not have to apologise to Victoria. Victoria came out swinging with her slanderous comments and doesn't even have the guts to say who she really is. Liana only corrected her spelling. Bad spelling is common with DIBP emails. That is probably why Liana assumed Victoria was from DIBP. If Victoria is a RMA then I suggest MIA is better for her. MIA love public servants a lot.
agree with liana. dibp are all crap. stuffed up my life listening to their utter crap. now i am back in the uk with no future to look forward to. if only liana had told us all about how crap dibp were before i could have been saved. i wish i had used an agent and not a public servant at dibp who told me to lodge a visa which was refused and then i had no more options said my agent. i had to go home. and now i have gone over the age to qualify.
Liana tells the truth and other agents say that is disgusting. Now that is weird. Real weird. I am from the USA and actually I am still in the USA thanks to a person at the high commission here who told me the wrong details and to use the wrong form and gave me the wrong advice.
I had to spend $14,000 USA and I am still fighting to get to Australia. I am appealing again. Spending money because some stupid untrained public servant case officer at the high commission told me the wrong things. Thanks Liana for being honest. You might save others from my awful fate. Use an agent on your first go.
Don't trust a public servant. It's not degrading them. They just are second rate compared to agents. They can't help being untrained but someone should put a muzzle on them and stop them giving poor advice to unsuspecting people like me.
Prakash is not my agent. I wish I had used him. He looks like a cool dude.
Liana should stay on her high horse where she belongs thanks very much. She is saving peoples lives by stopping them trusting the DIBP and what they suggest.
She saved my life when someone on Lee Street at DIAC told me I could lodge a tourist visa. Liana told me I had a bar on my first tourist visa and no compelling circumstances for a waiver.
If I had lodged it then it would have been refused. Instead I did something else Liana suggested and it worked brilliantly. I will forever be in her debt.
If I had relied on the public service for their 'help' I would have been in deep poo.
Probably one of the worst articles I have read on this website. The title is just ridiculous - I see no humour in it at all.
