How I see ME Alliance - by Amera Salah RMA

Hi Colleagues and Migration Alliance Members

I have been registered as Migration Agent for more than 15 years, most of which I spent serving community members as a non-commercial migration agent until I resigned from immigration-funded positions and changed my status to a fee-charging migration agent in 2008.

Like you, I have been receiving emails from ME Alliance promoting various services and products, from CPD, networking meetings, benchmark products, expression of interest to become committee member.  I must admit, when I received their email for the first time, I honestly thought this was part of Migration Alliance's services.  Then, I learned that this is a different organisation.  If that is the case, I thought:

"WHY DOES THIS PARTICULAR ORGANISATION POSE AS MIGRATION ALLIANCE?".

WHY DO THEY USE THE SAME LANGUAGE?  WHY DO THEY PROMOTE SAME SERVICES, AND WHY DON'T THEY DONT USE THEIR FULL NAME? AND WHY DO THEY APPEAL TO US RMAs in SUCH A DECEITFUL MANNER?"

After this was brought to the light as a confusing issue, I noticed that ME Alliance included disclaimer in their publications that 'they are in no way associated with Migration Alliance'.

Please note that this disclaimer is in smaller font than other parts of the publications and at the bottom of the page.  I also noticed spelling and grammatical mistakes in their publications, and don't get me wrong, I am from a non-English speaking background and English is my second language, and of course I make mistakes, but when I want to publish something, I always do proof-editing to make sure that the language is readable and understandable, for example, they misspelled the word 'Benefits' for members and you can go back to their publication sent on 22/1/2015!

As I mentioned above, I welcome other organisations to this profession and I know that some of us of MA members are also members of  MIA and that is normal but my concern is that I believe that ME Alliance passes itself off as  MA to reach to RMAs, and I found that to be  unethical and confusing. I believe that this approach is deceitful and doesn't show any degree of respect to us RMAs.

From a colleague RMA.
Amera Salah

I can't say more than I was thoroughly confused and still find it disconcerting to receive the ME email because they are so easily confused with MA. If MA does decide to take action, I would provide a witness statement to that effect.

I agree with you Amera, well said and spot on. 'Copy cats', not professional rather childish. This is an example of fraudulent, deceitful, unconsciouslable behavior and unethical conduct. I wonder what the MARA are doing about this.

Amerah is right - it is very confusing for those who are not working closely with Migration Alliance that they are not us and we are not them... and so we can all be forgiven to see this as deceptive, unprofessional and unethical. Why do some individuals or organisations get on this bandwagon of confusing its intended target group? perhaps they don't feel they can get any business unless they pass themselves as something else - there are lots of court cases related to the theft of intellectual property, plagiarism, opportunistic manouvering, misleading and deceptive conduct and, of course, false advertising. Perhaps people don't set out to end up this way but it's stirred a hornet's nest and needs to be sorted out.

An unfortunate and needless situation. Thank you Amera and everyone who has raised this with us.

How hard would it have been for Praveen Goyal to have chosen a different name than one with the words Migration and Alliance in it? I guess if first you don't succeed then you venture to deceive. Only fools would join ME.

Yes, exactly. The problem is what Amera and many others have raised - lots of people don't quite realise what it is until they sign up to, or are spammed with, ME Alliance's emails. Very poor form from someone who one would think should know better as these things are quickly known within the industry... oh well...

    I've tried to unsubscribe, but ME's emails just keep coming. . . . .

Yes, and their latest email contains information which is factually incorrect.

Thanks for sharing your views. ME asks for subscription to receive their newsletter but still send it sometimes twice in 15 minutes (I received the same email at 1.35 and 1.45 pm on 2/3), that means whether you subscribe or not you WILL STILL BE BOMBARDED WITH ME EMAILS. That is really strange!!!!

If MA members and others are concerned about getting unsolicited emails or continuing to receive emails after unsubscribing from them, then write to them and to ACMA, if the situation doesn't resolve itself.

The link below explains in plain English, what constitutes spams (which is something we should all be aware and prevent if we run a commercial website):

The link to the SPAM page in the ACMA website (the justweb article links to ACMA are out of date - the above ACMA link is correct):

I have lodged a complaint about ME Alliance sending me wrong information - migration advice - on email.
Here is the place to lodge a complaint about them http://www.acma.gov.au/Citizen/Stay-protected/My-mobile-world/Dealing-with-mobile-spam/spam-complaint-form-email
