Subject: VEVO for Organisations is now available [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
UNCLASSIFIED
Dear VEVO User
Users trying to access the Department of Immigration and Border Protection’s Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) for Organisations system will have noticed that this service has been unavailable since Saturday, 24 May 2014. We are pleased to advise that VEVO for Organisations has now been restored and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Users will now notice that VEVO for Organisations is no longer returning the Given and Family names as you have entered in your enquiry as part of the Entitlement Details screen, or when you save or print from VEVO. This is because some third parties might rely on printouts or screen dumps as being sufficient evidence of a person’s visa status and identity in Australia rather than conducting their own VEVO searches.
The VEVO for Organisations function uses the passport details and date of birth. It does not rely on, or verify, the name information entered by the user. Note, however, that Visa Entitlement Check emails sent by VEVO at the visa holder’s request will include name information held by the department in relation to the passport details shown in the email.
Organisations should never rely on a printout obtained by others as being a valid visa status check, especially those of unknown origin. Businesses conducting VEVO checks themselves, or relying on checks emailed from VEVO at the visa holder’s request, should sight the passport or the identity document that was used by the visa holder for the VEVO Entitlement Check; to confirm their identity and ensure that it matches the details shown in the VEVO Entitlement Check.
