IELTS Test - RMA writes to Hon. Scott Morrison

The-Hon-Scott-Morrison-MP---letter-from-B-Scheelings-RMA.pdf

The above pdf document is a letter which has been sent to Shadow Minister for Immigration and Citizenship by Migration Alliance member and RMA, Mr Scheelings.

Below is the attached list of IELTS scores sent along with the letter to Scott Morrison MP.

IELTS-results-stats.pdf

If the Coalition win the election and Morrison takes on the Immigration portfolio it is already known that he is looking to scrap the IELTS for RMAs test which is set to come into place on 1 January 2014.

Migration Alliance has been lobbying this topic hard for and on behalf of the Registered Migration Agent profession.  The Office of the MARA can produce no evidence that the IELTS test is needed.  There is no evidence that the IELTS test is the correct type of test for migration agents.  The IELTS test to be imposed on RMAs from 1 January 2014 was an inherited problem from the old days when the MIA was in control of the MARA and proposed it.

We will keep on fighting - SAY NO TO THE IELTS TEST FOR RMAs 2014.

I am in Migration Profession from last seven year . Doing well in Australia as compare to lots of offshore consultants who do not have sound knowledge of immigration law . If you asked them what is Australian Regulation , Act or policy and how its work . They don't have any clue and say Never heard .

Immigration consultancy is main source of income for my family . I had voted labor in last two terms . But definitely not in this term neither me or my wife . Because of this factor and couple of others .

If labor say IELTS for RMA then I would suggest to them bring every one on the field lawyer , solicitor , consultants from more 10 years , does matter which country that person born and also more important all the visa officer . Who decide future of normal public .

I had MIA member ship for first one year and I would say to all my colleagues . They never work for RMA . They are group of couple of people who works for them selves .

Plenty of mistake I had seen from Visa officer in professional career .

Thanks Liana bringing all this is once again .

The MIA has heavy links with the Labor party. The MIA has helped the Labor party implement this racist imposition on migration agents from Non-English Speaking backgrounds by proposing the IELTS test on migration agents in 2008/2009. This is all about Labor xenephobia, racism and bigotry. If you want to see how close the links the MIA have with Labor party have look at these links where the CEO Maureen Horder is always close to Labor heavyweights. Also the Chairman of the MIA, Angela Chan is Al Grassby (ex Labor Immigration Minister) ex-mistress. Yes, Angela Chan, the current President of the MIA was the mistress of one of Labor Party ex Immigration Minister.

Evidence for MIA Maureen Horder link to Labor Party: http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/content/2013/s3716010.htm (scroll down transcript see her name)

Another link showing Maureen Horder is ex ACT House of Assembly and ran for pre-selection in 1984. See comment from Geoff Robinson half way down page with a link to Maureen Horder profile on MIA website:
    http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:WHbRdGDjR_oJ:www.tallyroom.com.au/archive/election-2010/fowler+&cd=10&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=au

Now see link to Wikipedia article showing current Chairman of MIA, Angela Chan is ex-mistress (eg not his wife but his lover) of Al Grassby, a former Labor Party Immigration Minister . Note that Angela tried to lodge a claim on his estate when he died, and this failed. This is the MIA Chairman. Scroll down on this wikipedia article to 'Death and Subsequent Media Reports' and there you will find the name Angela Chan.

This policy smacked of racism and bigotry. It is absurd and preposterous that a registered agent has to do English test in order for him or her to be re-registered. Let us assumed that in the event of the person not getting the required marks, his or her registration is on the line. All of his or her resources inputted into the business becomes nought and his/ her career is gone. Why would MARA registered us in the first place when they deemed us to be qualified and all of sudden that initial qualification is not good enough. what does this say about competence and due diligence of MARA? I have never in my life come across this retrospective legislation affecting people who have already been registered for a number of years. This is like saying all nurses who are registered must do IELTS else they cannot be allowed to work as a nurse. It is true that as MARA alleges that most professional registration requires attainment of some level of English to be re-registered but only for the initial registration. I understand the logic behind initial registration being forced to do English because that is the law and the person at that time has not invested substantially in the business because he/or she had not been registered yet. People assess themselves and make sure they had pass the hurdle of being able to be registered before they set themselves up to invest in their business. I for one had invested in the vicinity of $150000 to $200000 in my business. Am I going to be compensated by MARA if I am unable to get the desire marks of the IELTS. This I think must have to be decided by the highest court in the land because it is law which has discriminatory undertone. We would have to ponder over this for a while and wait to see how things might pand out.

I believe the English requirements set up by MARA are not correct.
The exemption should be given to candidates who have done higher qualification in Australia, because they already had sit in IELTS test for their addmission to higher education in Audtralia and for getting Permanent Residency for Audtralia.
    Or
Their should be exemption for candidates who already done IELTS before( no time limit).
I hope they will change the definition of English requirement for registration as agent.
