Agents and their clients who want to get an in-depth look at the TOEFL iBT® test can now enroll in the new massive open online course (MOOC), hosted by edX. This is a unique opportunity to prepare for the TOEFL iBT test and develop English-language skills that immigration agencies, professional bodies, universities and other institutions look for in applicants.

TOEFL Test Preparation: The Insider’s Guide, beginning on Monday, June 13, 2016, is a six-week course designed by the experts who created the TOEFL test. Each week will focus on different aspects of the test. There will be a general introduction in week one, followed by a week for each of the four skills tested — Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing — then concluding in week six with test-day information and other helpful tips.

The course features a mix of short lectures, including “Inside the TOEFL Test” videos for each question type and sample questions from past tests complete with answer explanations. During the Speaking and Writing weeks, the team that developed the TOEFL test will review a handful of responses and provide evaluation and feedback. You will also get to meet and share information with students from around the world through discussion boards.

Wow!! Whoa! What! That’s just unbelievable! I’ve never heard about anything like that in my life! I cannot believe that actually happened!! Really!!!

Yes, it can be truly amazing what you come across when looking through the cases that are reported on Austlii. Yes, you would think that it could be a “dull exercise” (that’s why you should keep reading my articles!!).

I have just returned from Iran and have finally caught up with all of my work as well as having run 3 CPD events for LTA.

I got back on the 4th and notwithstanding catsatrophic jetlag, and a keen desire to just get back home, the overall sense of relief was tempered by the fact that I had been somewhere extraordinary, and that it was self evident, in my opinion, that what we were looking at was an emerging market.

On my last day in Tehran, the hotel where I was staying had its lifts full of 'carpet-baggers' who were in town to make deals. The newspapers were full of stories about who was in town and what the plan was.

The workshop will be led by ETS Global consultant and TOEFL expert Cath Moore. The workshop includes:

Do applicants for judicial review have a right to publicly funded representation?

The Full Court addressed this very important question in a decision that was handed down last Friday, 20 May: AMF15 v Minister for Immigration and Border Protection (2016) FCAFC 68.

Imagine, for a moment, that you are in the position of a person whose application for a protection visa  has been refused by the Department and the refusal has been affirmed by the AAT.  You don’t have money, don’t speak English well or at all, don’t understand the Australian legal system or concepts of judicial review. You just think that the Department and the Tribunal have misunderstood your case and have erroneously refused your visa.  Whether the Department or the Tribunal have found your claims to be credible or not, you have a genuinely held subjective fear of persecution:  You are truly frightened that if you are forced to return to your home country, you will be killed or tortured.
