Significant changes to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements for Registered Migration Agents (RMAs) will take effect from 1 April 2026 under the Migration Agents (CPD Activities, Approval of CPD Providers and CPD Provider Standards) Instrument 2026 (LIN 26/001).
The updated framework introduces clearer structure and stricter compliance requirements for annual re-registration. RMAs must now complete a total of 10 CPD points within the 12 months prior to applying for re-registration, including:
At least 5 Category A CPD points (compulsory)
2 mandatory points (Ethics and/or Code of Conduct)
3 additional points from either Category A or Category B activities
At the same time, the instrument imposes a practical limitation on delivery, with online CPD capped at a maximum of 6 points within any 24-hour period.
This cap has created a logistical challenge for RMAs seeking to complete their CPD efficiently, particularly those who prefer to complete all 10 points in a short timeframe.
Legal Training Australia (LTA) has responded proactively to these changes by introducing a structured and fully compliant delivery model designed specifically for the new regulatory environment.
LTA’s solution is the introduction of 10-point Category A Split-Blitz workshops, delivered over two sessions to comply with the 6-point online cap. These are offered in two formats:
6 + 4 Split-Blitz
5 + 5 Split-Blitz
Each Split-Blitz incorporates two mandatory components , Ethics and Code of Conduct, ensuring that RMAs can meet all regulatory requirements within a single structured program.
By dividing the CPD into two sessions separated by at least 24 hours, LTA enables RMAs to complete their full 10 CPD points quickly, efficiently, and in full compliance with LIN 26/001.
Importantly, all workshops are delivered as Category A activities, allowing RMAs to complete the entire 10-point requirement in approximately 10 hours of training. The programs are conducted online, require no examinations, and are designed to minimise disruption to professional practice.
The introduction of the Split-Blitz model reflects a broader shift in the migration advice profession toward more structured, outcomes-focused CPD delivery. It also highlights the increasing importance of compliance with both content requirements and delivery constraints under the new legislative framework.
As the 1 April 2026 commencement date approaches, RMAs are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the updated requirements and plan their CPD accordingly.
Legal Training Australia’s early adoption of a compliant, practical solution places it at the forefront of CPD delivery in the migration profession, providing RMAs with a clear pathway to meet their obligations under the new regime.
