Capstone fail rate of 87%

Migration Agents would be aware that Migration Alliance has been covering news around the Capstone recently.  In new news, Migration Law Updates has reported that solicitor and RMA Mark Northam (MARN 1175508) lodged a Freedom of Information Request with the DoHA which led to the discovery of the actual shocking fail-rate results.  Congratulations to Mark Northam, ex-Migration Alliance committee member, for obtaining this information via FOI.

Candidates who sat the Capstone Exam between July 2018 and February 2019: 131

Pass rate: 12.97%.

Fail rate: 87.03%.

Due to the recent fail rates being reported by persons sitting the Capstone, Christopher Levingston, Accredited Specialist Immigration Lawyer, is running a two-day Capstone preparation programme on both the 27 & 28 July, and 7 & 8 September 2019 which will cover the following topics:

  • Capstone Format
  • Allocation of marks
  • Exam strategies
  • Examiners expectations
  • Preparing for the exam
  • Sample questions for each of the relevant modules
  • Preparation for the oral exam
  • Preparation of materials for the "Open book"

Thanks for the mention, Liana! For more on this including an interview with Arnab Gosh Roy, the student leading the drive to change the Capstone exam, see https://migrationshow.com/the-migration-show-episode-20/

Hmm - it may be worse than 12%. It is unclear how many of each successive Capstone exam candidates were in fact re-sits from previous fails.

Does this reflect on the Students or the Teachers?

Its a reflection on the Capstone..its all the uni students from different unis.. So its too many to say its a specific teacher.. Prior to the capdtone these were going into the field & be hired or fired if they didnt cut it in a practice... Now we have noone going into practice.. & now xtra training courses to pass a test..that didn't exist.

He doesn’t have to teach hen law. They just got done doing that in their Post Grad course. He needs to help them with the Capstone exam. He doesn’t have to start from scratch, I wouldn’t have thought???

Reading the above about 17 new Agents have been able to practice,,in 6 months worth of tests, surely the Alarm bells were ringing months ago,, Only now the freedom of Information has let the dogs of the leash,, Many thanks to Mark Northam, from a students point of view, i am very concerned if I am doing the correct course. If i can pass University but not the Capstone, Something has failed, and I don't mean the students.o look after
