TSS and Skill Select update

1.1. Processing times

Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) processing team within the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) is processing TSS visa applications within two months. 

  • 482 Temporary Skill Shortage      Short-Term         57 days 64 days
  • 482 Temporary Skill Shortage      Medium-Term  55 days 63 days

 The following General Information is available for TSS Visa applicants.  This information is current as of 26 July 2018:

1.2 Application Refusals

TSS Processing Team may refuse an application for a TSS nomination or/and visa if an application is deemed incomplete.  Applicants are required to upload all of their supporting documents within two days of lodging the application.  Where a particular document cannot be provided (for example, police clearance) an explanation should be uploaded to immi account. 

If an application is refused on an error please  email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. using the following codes in your subject line: 

  • P1 – Subclass – Spon/Nom/Visa – TRN – to be used where the application was refused on the grounds that certain evidence was not provided when it was
  • P2 – Subclass – Spon/Nom/Visa – TRN – to be used where the refusal resulted because the applicant was not exempted from a requirement where appropriate because of international trade obligations (ITO)
  • P3 – Subclass – Spon/Nom/Visa – TRN – to be used where the application was refused before the time period for requested information or comments to be provided ended
  • P4 – Subclass – Spon/Nom/Visa – TRN – to be used where the application was refused despite an earlier request for withdrawal being made
  • P5 - Subclass – Spon/Nom/Visa – TRN  - to be used where the application was refused on grounds that the client was invited to comment on adverse information (s57/procedural fairness) within a specific timeframe and the decision to refuse was made prior
  • P6 - Subclass – Spon/Nom/Visa – TRN  - to be used where an application was accidentally withdrawn without the client’s consent. 

Timeframes for review continue to apply, and there is no obligation for the department to consider initial review within AAT review timeframes. 

1.3. Condition 8547 waiver

Condition 8547 restricts working holiday visa holders to work for a period of no more than 6 months per employer.  Waiver Form 1445 should be emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if an applicant is seeking a waver on the basis of lodging a 482-visa application. 

1.4 Use of Immi account 

Immi account should be used for: 

  • Providing supporting documentation
  • Responding to invitations to provide further information
  • Updating contact details and passports
  • Applying for Bridging Visa B
  • Applying for change in conditions of Bridging Visa A and C (work rights)
  • Withdrawing an application

 Bridging Visa B applications are generally finalised within 7 days.

2.0 Skill Select Invitations to be issued once a month

The following message appears on SkillSelect Portal.  

SkillSelect invitation rounds for Skilled - Independent (subclass 189) and Skilled - Regional Provisional (subclass 489) will occur once each month, on the 11th day of each month, effective 11 August 2018. There is no change to the overall number of invitations provided each month. 

Pass mark will remain at 65 points with certain occupations attracting a higher pass score.  Full list of relevant occupations can be found here:
