Tony was bound for Atlantic City when Hurricane Irene hit. Hurricanes are often tracked up to 48 hours before they hit land, which gives travelers sufficient notice to alter their plans. Tony was ready to fly to Atlantic City when the media and government websites started issuing travel warnings urging travelers to stay away. Considering the strength of the approaching storm, Tony decided to follow the official advice. He found alternative accommodation where he was and cancelled his flight. Miller broke his ankle while visiting an ancient ruin. Turkey is home to historical sites that, due to their age, can have worn and uneven walking paths. Miller was exploring the Ephesus ruins. He was preoccupied with taking photos and looking at the old architecture. Suddenly, Miller took a step and his foot slipped from under him. He fell and broke his ankle on impact with the ground. Miller was evacuated from the site by a local ambulance and transported to a nearby hospital. The doctors confirmed that his ankle needed urgent treatment. Miller was on a group tour and still had a few stops to visit, but because of his injury he needed to cancel his trip. Unsure of what to do, he contacted his travel insurer for assistance. Sandra was shopping when she tripped and fractured her wrist. She had slipped on uneven ground and instinctively threw her hands out in front of her to brace for the fall. The impact bent her wrist backwards and she had landed on her arm. Assuming it was just a sprain, Sandra continued with her shopping. After a few hours, the pain had become worse and she decided to visit a doctor. The hospital scans showed that Sandra had a bad break and required immediate surgery. When asked for payment, Sandra contacted her travel insurance provider to cover the cost of the surgery and other expenses incurred as a result of the fall.
