As many would be aware, on 18 April 2017, the Prime Minister and the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection announced reforms to the employer-sponsored permanent and temporary skilled visas, which support the Australian Government’s objective of aligning its migration programs to Australia’s economic and social priorities. These reforms included the introduction of the Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) and the Medium and Long Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) which identify the occupations that are available for temporary and permanent skilled migration. Further changes to the skilled migration occupation lists were made by the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection on 1 July 2017.

The Department of Employment, working closely with the Department of Home Affairs and other relevant departments, is now responsible for providing advice to the Australian Government on updates to the STSOL and MLTSSL.

The six monthly updates will be underpinned by the following principles:

  • stakeholder consultation processes.
  • robust labour market evidence and analysis.

The new STOL and MLTSSL is expected to be made publicly available on 1 July 2018.

OMG. How can they remove cablers and telecommunication linesworkers? Aussies don't want to do these jobs, especially in the country. We will never get proper telecommunication and NBN with this government. Are they really consulting with industry stakeholders? These jobs are done through small businesses, Telstra doesn't employ these workers, all work is subcontracted. How does Telstra know who the small businesses employ? And the arts and Film industry? We are doomed

I mean do you think that the DHA will accept all these changes which offered by The Department of Employment or not?

Hi, I have completed my MBA degree and currently working as a school cleaner in VIC. I have seen in ANZSCO list under skill 5 that if we do school cleaning for one year and do certificate 3 and 4 then we can try for state sponsorship. Please can you give me a genuine answer if we can get PR through school cleaning for one year and completing certificate 3 and 4.
    Thank you
