For a test to be a fair and reliable measurement of a person’s abilities, there has to be proper test security. Make sure that your clients understand the rules and procedures for their TOEFL iBT® test, so that there are no surprises on test day.
Before the test, test takers must:
- Register for the test using an approved form of identification that contains a photograph and signature. Check the requirements for each country here: www.ets.org/toefl/id.
- Make sure that the name in their TOEFL iBT account matches the name on their ID.
When checking in at the test centre, test takers will:
- Show approved ID to the test centre administrator.
- Provide handwriting and signature samples.
- Sign an agreement that they have read and will adhere to all policies and procedures.
- Have their photo taken and placed at their assigned seat. It will also appear on their score reports.
In the testing room, test takers:
- Are prohibited from bringing items into the testing room that could be used as a testing aid or to collect, share or collaborate on test content.
- Have no access to personal items such as electronic devices, books, handbags and backpacks, all of which are stored separately from the test takers to maintain security.
- Must present their identification to the test centre administrator and have their identity verified upon returning from breaks.
