The art of coping

Stress rolls off some people like water off a duck’s back. Don’t get mad, get even by mastering these simple techniques.

Start the day well

Attack the day like it’s a mountain you’re destined to conquer. Put on some upbeat tunes, eat a decent brekkie, get your blood pumping with a brisk walk and try to get in an optimistic frame of mind. Who’s the best? You are! Who? You! That’s right!

Small minds make little problems look big

Difficulties arise in every life. The challenge is to keep things in perspective rather than catastrophising and getting caught up in unhealthy emotional responses. Remember: the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time (that’s just a saying, don’t literally try to eat an elephant, ok?)

Get yourself a ZENTOR

What’s a Zentor, you ask? It’s someone you look up to who is the personification of the calm, well-adjusted human so many of us aspire to be. A Zen-like mentor. Ask them what their secrets to problem solving are. You may be surprised that they’re more like you than you realise.

Turn it off and turn it back on again

Hey, it works with any number of bits of technology, and humans are some of the best tech going around. So if you’re stuck on a problem, don’t just stare at it. Take some time out to reboot and look at it again later. You might just bring a fresh perspective.

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Make a solid, step-by-step plan to help you tackle the problem directly and do your best to follow it through. Evaluate how you went and learn from the experience.
