The RRT have permitted the following information to be sent to members:
"Dear NSW community liaison network members,
Kay Ransome, the Principal Member of the Refugee Review Tribunal will be holding information sessions about the Immigration Assessment Authority (IAA) in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth in May 2015.
The information session scheduled for Sydney will take place on Wednesday, 20 May 2015.
Please complete the online registration by 6 May 2015 to let us know whether you will be attending.
The sessions are targeted at members of the community who provide support for asylum seekers and aim to provide some insight into how the IAA will operate, and how service providers can support their clients in working with the Authority.
We invite you to forward this invitation to any asylum seeker service providers within the community that may also be interested in attending.
By way of background, the IAA was established as a result of the enactment of the Migration and Maritime Powers (Resolving the Asylum Legacy Caseload) Act in December 2014. The IAA sits as a separate office within the Refugee Review Tribunal and will be responsible for providing a new model of limited merits review for the “Legacy IMA Caseload” which includes over 24,000 unauthorised maritime arrivals who entered Australia between 13 August 2012 and 31 December 2014. We expect proclamation of the Act to occur shortly and the IAA to commence operation some time after the beginning of the new financial year.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Kind regards
